‘When karma hits your dogma’: Atlanta councilman who voted to defund police has Mercedes stolen

Pre-teen car thieves reportedly stole the vehicle of a politician who previously voted to subtract millions from the Atlanta, Ga., police department budget.
City councilman Antonio Brown, who is running for mayor, was among seven of his colleagues to vote to strip $73 million from the Atlanta PD’s budget, even with crime running rampant in the city. The ordinance was narrowly voted down.
Brown is an advocate of “reimagining” or reinventing public safety in the city, but in this encounter, he followed the less-innovative approach of calling 911.
In the incident that occurred shortly before noon on Wednesday, Brown he said he just exited his Mercedes to engage in a discussion with community leaders about affordable housing when a nearby group of young kids no older than 12, and one of whom might have been as young as 6, allegedly jumped in the vehicle, which has a keyless ignition system, and started the engine.
Brown and another man reportedly grappled with the youngster in the driver’s seat, and the lawmaker said the vehicle dragged him for a half a block before he let go, and the thieves continued to drive off.
In perhaps another form of irony after he called for help, “The councilman said it took police 45 minutes to arrive because 911 incorrectly assigned it as low-priority dispatch,” WSB-TV Atlanta reported.
Cops later found the vehicle after a few hours, but it’s unclear if they arrested anyone. Councilman Brown has indicated that he is not interested in press charges, anyway.
