Mayorkas Suggests DHS Will Further Gut Police Program that Helps Arrest Criminal Illegal Aliens

John Binder 26 May 2021

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas suggested he will further gut a law enforcement program that helps keep criminal illegal aliens from being released into American communities.

In a committee hearing with House lawmakers on Wednesday, Mayorkas suggested that he will take more action against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) 287(g) program that allows local police to partner with ICE agents to keep criminal illegal aliens off the streets.

“I’m certainly aware of some of the abuses of the 287(g) program and I believe that I brought an example of that abuse to an end recently,” Mayorkas said, adding:

I am engaging with the men and women of ICE in the development of Secretary’s enforcement guidelines. And once we have done that, I do intend to continue my dialogue with sheriffs and chiefs of police … to see how we can most effectively partner in the service of … smart and effective law enforcement.

Biden administration physically restricts 12 GOP lawmakers from access to border facility

The Biden administration on Tuesday denied several Republican lawmakers access to a Drug Enforcement Administration border facility in El Paso, Texas.

A delegation of 12 GOP members of Congress were physically restricted from entering the El Paso Intelligence Center during a visit to the southern border, Fox News reported. The lawmakers have reportedly attempted to gain access to the facility for weeks and been rebuffed by Biden's government.

The GOP lawmakers accused the Biden administration of interfering with their "constitutional duty to have oversight over these facilities that are paid for by taxpayer dollars."

"All I can say is, I don't know what they have to hide," Rep. Brian Babin (R-Texas) said. "For some reason, we were not allowed in. I can only imagine what is it that they want to hide and not show the very representatives of the American people that have oversight over this facility that fund it and that authorize it. What don't they want us to see?" ...
