Washington weighs risk of defending Taiwan against China
by Agence France-Presse
May 6, 2021
in War News

US President Joe Biden is expected to announce his strategy toward China soon, and calls are growing for him to make a clear public commitment to defend Taiwan militarily in the event of Chinese aggression.

China considers Taiwan, which has a population of 23 million, to be a rebel province that will one day return to the mainland’s fold, by force if necessary.

The United States, which has diplomatically recognized Beijing since 1979, has maintained relations with Taipei and remains its most important military ally.

Is Uncle Joe beginning to waffle on U.S. Military commitments to our allies?

NOT going to happen.

Where would all our electronic toys, car parts, bolts, nuts, and practically everything else come from if we did that?

The Chinese can shut down America any time they want by just cutting off shipments to us.

Biden can do it faster and more surreptitiously than his comrades in China, make it look like they had no part in it. 888blackhat

IMHO, the recent cyber attacks on the gas pipeline in the US, the power plant in Taiwan, and the ship wedged sideways in the Suez Canal were all trial runs for an upcoming move by the ChiComs. When the ChiComs make their move it will be multi-dimensional and multi-front. They will block the Panama Canal to delay our relocation of any carrier group while simultaneously parallizing our infrastructure here in the US with attacks on our power grid and energy pipelines. Given they have to anticipate an attempt to shore up defenses after the recent pipeline attack, I expect them to make their move soon. Another SARS-COV-2 virus variant may also be in the mix, as well as coordinated moves by Iran and/or Russia.

Carriers can go through the Panama Canal?

What's the risk of not defending Taiwan?  A re-militarized Japan?  Conflict between China and India, both nuclear powers?  Other nations re-militarizing as they fear the US will not defend them?  Those re-militarized nations coming into conflict with each other?

@Cyber Liberty

No,but carriers won't leave home port without all their supply and defense groups. Yes,these ships can probably get through the Panama Canal, but it means nothing if the carriers don't get through with them.

The United States -- regardless of who is president -- is NOT going to risk nuclear war with China over a Chinese invasion of Taiwan.

Any conflict of that magnitude would end up going nuclear, probably sooner than later.

It's just not worth it, regardless as to what's written on the paper of "security agreements".

China will take back Taiwan someday.
The question is... "when"...?

If we can ship all the Rats to Taiwan, they'll look forward to their new Overlords.  Win-win!
