Biden Administration Set to Announce Largest Summer Food Program in U.S. History

Katherine Rodriguez 26 Apr 20211

The Biden administration will announce on Monday the introduction of a taxpayer-funded summer food program that would feed an estimated 30 million low-income Americans.

“Congress, through the American Rescue Plan, expanded this program to operate during the summer, which I think was just highly responsive to what we need right now,” Stacy Dean, the deputy undersecretary of agriculture for food, nutrition, and consumer services, said in a statement.

“We know that summer hunger is a problem in normal years, but obviously this year, with heightened food hardship as a result of the pandemic, we’re happy to deploy the program this summer,” Dean added.

The plan will give 34 million children approximately $375 each to purchase food for the 10-week period that they are on break from school for the summer.

Children under six who qualify for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and who are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch would not only qualify for the program but be enrolled automatically.

Their parents or guardians would get Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer, or P-EBT, cards from individual state agencies.

Congress has funded the program for two summers — in 2021 and 2022.

When the 'pandemic' hit many of the schools around here opened up and served one meal to each student a day. It was better than nothing. Many neighbors put out food at the end of the driveway for those in need.

Then each student was issued an EBT card.  That all happened under the Trump administration, so I'm not quite so sure that this claim about Biden is accurate, although he is greatly pushing us toward socialism.

The christian radio station that I listen to has hosted for years a PB&J war. Businesses get together and challenge each other to see who can accumulate the most peanut butter and jelly for the community.  This year is a Star Wars theme; all donation boxes are decorated as such. Maybe PB&J doesn't sound like much, but to hungry kids, it fills their bellies for awhile.

  • I need to be in love, K.c. R.C.
The democrats/China co-vid game closed down so many restaurants that many farmers couldn't seii their crops and had to dump their crops in land fills.  Now the problems democrats made, the democrats tell us they are going to fix, again at our costs and with more of our money.

I've got a food program for you... All it costs is a back yard, or a bunch of tubs, about fifty bucks in seed, a hoe, and a little time. in thirty days, you-ll have more food than you can eat.

Right in the midst of that 'hard summer food time'.

That is my method for now.  Free tubs from livestock feed.

You oughta take a peek at Arms Family Homestead on Youtube... Sometime last summer maybe... He added self-watering tubs like that (molasses lick tubs) to his high tunnel... Kinda a wicking thing going on... Shove a hose in and fill it till it is running out a weep hole on the side and leave it be for a week or two... Pretty slick.

Different brand but I'm using the same type of tub.

I'm still small enough scale that I like watering and looking at them often.  Mine do drain from the bottom so they dry out quick.

The tubs seems to cut down on the crawling pests.  Thanks for the info.

I understand your plan but I just don't see how Harris can be in so many places at the same time.

Yep
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

While the Chinese Virus made things hard (and continue to make it hard) for a number of families, I sincerely doubt that there are millions of children going hungry.
Because the hunger scam (another lib scam) has been going on well before the virus hit America.
We actually have people who claimed pre-virus that if they didn't institute free summer lunch programs in public schools, children would starve. It's all bullsh*t on stilts.
How about parents feed their sprogs?
They didn't produce one example of any children starving but used the food pantry dodge to "prove" that people, especially children, were going hungry.
Yes, you put out free food, and people came and took it. How about that. That's like saying people are penniless because you gave away free money and thousands of people came and took the money.
