Three people were shot, including one possibly fatally, at a Stop & Shop on Long Island on Tuesday — with the gunman apparently then hopping on a nearby bus to flee, according to cops and a report.
The bloodshed occurred around 11:15 a.m. at the grocery store at 50 Cherry Valley Ave. in West Hempstead, authorities said — as cops urged residents to stay indoors while a manhunt continued for the suspect.
“There has been an active shooter situation at the West Hempstead Stop & Shop,†the Nassau County Police Department confirmed in a tweet a little after noon.
“The #NassauCountyPD is canvassing the area & nearby schools have been notified to lock down & secure their buildings. The subject has not been apprehended yet & we ask that area residents remain indoors.â€
One of the gunshot victims is believed to have died, while two other people were injured, law-enforcement sources told a local NBC-TV affiliate.
