A Post report headlined, "A year into the pandemic, it’s even more clear that it’s safer to be outside," essentially proving the media narrative was wildly overblown.
"For more than a year, the vast majority of documented coronavirus clusters have been linked to indoor or indoor-outdoor settings — households, meatpacking plants, nursing homes and restaurants. Near-absent are examples of transmission at beaches and other open spaces where breezes disperse airborne particles, distancing is easier, and humidity and sunlight render the coronavirus less viable," Post reporters Karin Brulliard and Lenny Bernstein wrote.

Sherlock WashPost! Somehow I figured out nearly a year ago that outdoors, with its vast air volume and breezes/winds, was one of the least risky places to be.
Samples of real life ... I'm kind of on the periphery of the Bay Area's trail running community, but I'm acquainted with the owners of several trail run event organizers. These aren't biggies, like Rock n Roll or Run Disney, these are family owned small businesses. Some have been able to do "virtual" events - run/walk the distance on your own time where it's convenient - but these are nowhere near the same as getting together with a few hundred other runners and walkers at some amazing venue and recovery area goodies. These folks know how to organize safe drink and snack handling at aid stations and the recovery area, how to start runners in smaller groups, spreading runners out to avoid crowding on trails, etc.. But Goobernor Noisome shut down all such events without the companies being allowed to show the safety measures they already do or could work into events. These companies, their employees, and the owner families have been hurt! By over-reaction to fears known for many months to have been vastly overblown.
