Judge to review Psaki email that allegedly shows she was ‘lying’ to media about Iran nuclear deal
March 2, 2021 | Jon Dougherty A federal judge has ordered the government to turn over an email in which current White House press secretary Jen Psaki admits to dishonesty with media over details of the Iran nuclear deal while it was being negotiated during the Obama Administration.
The order is in response to a lawsuit filed by the American Center for Law and Justice claiming the State Department deleted an awkward admission by Psaki during a press briefing in 2013 when she was the agency’s spokesperson that the White House lied to Americans about the Iran talks.
The court decision hones in on an email from Psaki which the ACLJ says amounts to evidence she lied during the briefing.
The legal watchdog said on its website that it filed its Freedom of Information Act Request more than five years ago.
During an exchange regarding the Obama administration’s behind-the-scenes talks with Iran, Psaki was asked, “Is it the policy of the State Department, where the preservation or the secrecy of secret negotiations is concerned, to lie in order to achieve that goal?â€
“I think there are times where diplomacy needs privacy in order to progress. This is a good example of that,†Psaki said in response.
The ACLJ said that admission is tantamount to deceiving the public.
