Authorities deter illegal crossings at the Rio Grande

This fiscal year, Laredo Sector Marine Unit have apprehended over 450 immigrants attempting to cross the river and have turned back over 1,000 more individuals to Mexico.

State and federal authorities combined efforts to detain 10 people who attempted to cross the border illegally, the U.S. Border Patrol said on Thursday.

The Laredo Sector Marine Unit, Laredo South agents, and a Texas Department of Public Safety air unit worked together to arrest the individuals in south Laredo.

Agents also successfully turned back an additional 16 individuals who were trying to cross the river, according to Border Patrol.

“Since the start of this fiscal year alone, Laredo Sector Marine Unit have apprehended over 450 illegal (immigrants) attempting to cross the river and have turned back over 1,000 more individuals to Mexico. Laredo Sector Marine Unit continues to work tirelessly to keep our nation's borders secure,” Border Patrol said in a statement.
