2 Senators Flip-Flop on Keystone XL Pipeline, Thwarting GOP Bid to Save It

Rachel del Guidice / @LRacheldG / February 05, 2021

Two Democratic senators—Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Jon Tester of Montana—who initially voted in favor of a Republican amendment reversing President Joe Biden’s cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline later reversed themselves and voted with other Democrats to kill the amendment.

Both Tester and Manchin voted late Thursday night for the amendment from Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont., that would have reversed Biden’s Jan. 20 executive order ending further construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline, but changed their votes before dawn on Friday morning.

Daines’ amendment was attached to a COVID-19 relief bill and initially passed 52-48, but after Manchin and Tester switched sides, Vice President Kamala Harris cast the tie-breaking vote to kill the amendment on a straight party-line vote.

An angry Daines tweeted Friday morning, “Early this morning, while the American people were asleep, Senate Democrats chose to flip-flop on their support for my Keystone XL pipeline amendment, as well as @SenatorBraun’s amendment to support fracking.” Sen. Mike Braun is a GOP lawmaker from Indiana.

Again, exemplifying how big an idiot McConnell is for trusting democrats in any form or fashion.

Next up.  Fillibuster vote along party lines, and the Skank Kameluh breaking the tie.

Sorry, but.... I don't think McConnell is an idiot for trusting democrats.  I think he is an idiot for being a RINO (complicit).   And really....'idiot' is the least of what he actually is.

Giving him the short term benefit of the doubt. Only for the reason that he is about to lose all power, and even Turtles want to be relelvant.

He fully deserves to lose all power.   Look at what he has done with that power.   He's a male version of Pelosi, IMO....only sneakier and more gutless, since he doesn't come right out... in front of God and everyone... and tear up Trump's agenda like she tore up Trump's speech.   What he and others like him deserve is what I wish for him.   And yeah, I'm probably going to hell for that sentiment.   :smokin:

Looks like for all his posturing, when the chips are down, Mr. Manchin does as he's told.

Tester... can't figure him.
Why did Montana elect this guy...?

I believe you know the answer to that one.

He had more important things to do than to vote.

Who did the GOP put up against Tester?

Yes, they did. East of the mountains is largely democrat, with the college in Bozeman, Butte, and Great Falls (large[er]) cities holding the lion's share of the population. Testercle is a plains guy and got all their votes.

West of the mountains got Daines... Whom I didn't vote for either.

Well east of the mountains in the Big Empty, with the exception of the Reservation counties, the vote went solidly GOP. https://www.politico.com/election-results/2018/montana/senate/

In 2018, there were more counties more solidly 'red' in the east than in the west. It's all that Californication out there in the foothills that did it.

While the patch matters east of the mountains, He'll probably be reelected till he retires. As was Max Baucus for almost all my life before him.

East of the mountains has backed democrats my whole life. And even yet, West of the mountains generates Republicans - Nearly always RINOs since Rasciot became governor. Something changed there in the party hierarchy.

I backed Conrad Burns as long as he was in office, Denny Rehburg, And lastly and lately, Ryan Zinke, who I had great hope for, but alas, he was one of the first through Tumpy's revolving door of appointments. I also helped to get Daines in, though I did not vote for him this time

There's oil from Cutbank to Hardin to Cedar Creek to Westby, and back. Basically, everywhere East of the Mountains has oil within 50 miles. Remember, too, the jobs crapped on are mainly Union jobs, and they don't take kindly to losing work (and money).

Cowboy country and monster farms. You said it. The Big Empty. Population centers own the east side. That Testercle is a farmer pretty well seals him in. The farmers vote for their own, and the cities vote Democrat. Watch and see.

Maybe Republicans should have pushed for election laws to be followed in Georgia instead of worrying about Trump winning.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

-Ayn Rand-

It was Republicans in Georgia who enabled the fraud, from the top.
