Agree ... he easily could have fallen backwards.  I'm a little surprised the officer at the foot of the stairs wasn't moving up the stairs to prevent a tumble.

I doubt it has anything to do with his fractured "chasing the dog's tail while I'm wet and naked" foot. It's the freakin' dementia. My father - who had dementia - stumbled, too. He had trouble with depth perception and knowing where to place his foot.

My wife and I took care of my inlaws for close to 10 years, with both having dementia.  Her father having heart issues and dementia was seemingly falling at least once every few weeks.  It seemed a miracle that he never broke anything.  I remember the doctor saying that inner ear issues (hairs) are the most likely cause of balance problems. And of course that balance includes warped depth perception
