The AMA washed its hands of this early on.  Some members of Congress were practically begging them to offer a work around solution.  They did not.  In this case the doctors ignored patients in chronic pain.

If there were ever an opportunity for Trump to raise his voice and highlight an issue, surely this is it.

I've fired brokers who pushed short sells, and avoided funds that base a lot of their portfolio on these practices.  I have always been of the philosphy that the whole process unfairly penalizes companies that may see unavoidable rough patches.  Investing is and always should be about picking winners, NOT being a jackal and feasting on injured or dying carcasses.  (Stepping down from soap box)

The Docs had no choice.  State Regulators were threatening their licenses to practice medicine if they didn't choke down on the patients.  Medicare was in on the squeeze as they ratcheted down the guidelines.  Elderly patients started giving up and dying because of the depression caused by the constant untreated pain...all in the name of "keeping kids off drugs." 

It was simple-minded.

And that would be a perfect way to state the argument.

Trump could reinforce his identification with normal people, herd the R party into a winning position, drive a wedge between the "progressive" populists and the Biden administration, and force many of those "progressives" to eat some of their words.  It would be a quadruple win.
