It’s Time For Mitch To Go

If the GOP wants to win again, they’ll reject McConnell and find younger leadership that is ready to build a new party to serve the middle class, not the ruling class.

By Chris Buskirk
January 7, 2021

Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who currently holds what I suppose we now call the Office of the Outgoing Senate Majority Leader, has to go. He’s a man unsuited for the times. The results prove it.

It is McConnell who has been the architect of Republican defeat in the Senate. Heading into the 2016 election, there were 54 Republican senators. After the election there were 52. Then, in 2018, McConnell backed the disastrous candidacy of Martha McSally for an open seat in Arizona. It was McConnell who picked her and crowded out other viable candidates. That year McSally lost by 2.4 percentage points to Kyrsten Sinema while, at the same time, Republican Doug Ducey cruised to a nearly 15-point win as Arizona’s governor.

Voters didn’t reject Republicans as such; they rejected McSally. McConnell then lobbied for McSally to be appointed to the seat vacated by John McCain, setting up another McSally defeat at the hands of Mark Kelly in November. Again, she trailed the Republican at the top of ticket, underperforming Donald Trump. And once again, it was McConnell’s doing. In Arizona he helped engineer the loss of two Republican senate seats in two years by handpicking a candidate Arizonans didn’t want.

He finished the job in 2020 with a loss in Colorado, an admittedly tough race on unfavorable terrain. But it was the run-off elections in Georgia that sealed the deal. There, McConnell selected Kelly Loeffler over elected Republicans like U.S. Representative Doug Collins for appointment to the seat held by Johnny Isakson, who resigned for health reasons. Why? McConnell never explained his rationale publicly but it wouldn’t be a stretch to think that he thought he was being clever and wagered that female candidates would get female votes that a male candidate wouldn’t get. Plus, Loeffler is very wealthy and pledged to put at least $20 million of her own money into the campaign.

Well, it was time for Mitch to go when Trump was inaugurated yet the idiots put him in charge and people kept voting him in.  Irreparable damage has already been done to our country by him. I no longer like the name Turtle for him; he is the Cowardly lion. One that never fights or roars back but puts his tail between his legs and trembles.

He is no longer of any use and he will find that he is no longer of any use to the DEMS. He's a stupid little man.

Rubbish.  McConnell, by getting Trump a SCOTUS seat to fill right of the bat, and getting as many Federalist Society approved judges on the bench as he could, by playing hardball on judicial appointments the past five years, has done more for American liberty than any politician in the past two decades.  The Georgia loss is Trump's to own, with the bulls**t from him and his lawyers about needing to "fix" the election process and explicit discouragement of his supporters from voting in the Senate run-off.

Yeah, its time for Mitch, and a whole lotta other republicans, to go. They represent themselves far more than they represent us.

Or, more likely, its just time for me to go.

Our best chance was when Matt Bevin challenged him.

Mitch needs to go but he won’t...not willingly anyway.   He’s got a lockdown on power in the GOP in the Senate the way Pelosi does in the House.

And his hand picked cronies are in positions to block any challenges from Conservatives to find a new leader.

The only way Mitch will go is feet first.

McConnell is out for only one person. Himself.  Just listen to his floor speech yesterday.

He doesn’t have to pretend to like Trump anymore.  Now Mitch can return to being King Swamp Rat.

The 2008-16 version that did more to further the Obama agenda than any politician in DC.

Never forget in ‘80 he was a Bushie and in ‘76 backed Ford.

I disagree.

McConnell playing political games with coronavirus relief was either a gross miscalculation or deliberate sabotage. It did as much to swing undecided voters away from the GOP as Trump's antics... which, I'll note, were not just Trump's but a manifestation of decades of distrust in the electoral process amplified ten thousandfold by this cockamamie mail-in voting scheme.

I have little doubt that Mitch was roughed up a little and was told he better get back in line with the country club.

Mitch is also notorious for blocking true conservatives from unseating RINO's in the Senate ... that is why he hates Cruz so much.  Cruz managed to be seated and shocked the country club establishment Bozos by getting elected and to boot, he wouldn't block other conservatives from getting seats as Mitch wanted him to.  Mitch actually put Cruz in a basement office for awhile and took away subcommittee duties.  Cruz in turn later called Mitch a liar on the Senate floor. Now he's stood up and objected to the fraud that took place, so I imagine Mitch is going to try to get rid of Ted; which he may succeed now that the DEMS own the Senate again.

IMHO there is no sense in letting the status quo remain.  The GOP is dead.  Let it dissolve. Emerge with a new government/party and get rid of the liberal choke hold.

Unfortunately there more than a few so called Conservatives that would love to help McConnell send Ted Cruz into retirement...and that is a damn shame.

One of Mitch's dirty tricks is to threaten any advertising or PR firm that might work with a primary opponent that they will never get one dime in GOP business ever again if they do business with (insert primary challenger here).

I wish the good Senator well and pray for him.  Life is going to become extremely difficult for him now that Mitch has turned tail and the DEMS will hold the majority.
