Senate GOP leaders seek to put an end to election disputes
By Alexander Bolton - 12/14/20 06:58 PM EST

Senate Republican leaders want to avoid a messy debate and vote on the legitimacy of the election results when Congress meets Jan. 6 to count the votes of the Electoral College, which on Monday elected Joe Biden as president.

Senate GOP leaders have downplayed the chances of objecting to the vote by electors, but several House Republicans led by Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) will move ahead with objections to state results. If just one GOP senator joins Brooks, each chamber will then meet separately to consider those objections.

Senate Majority Whip John Thune (R-S.D.), asked about the prospect of fellow Republicans objecting to the count said, “It’s not going anywhere.”

“It’s an opportunity for people to vent and protest, but in the end we have a clear way of determining our president. Those steps have been adhered to. They’ve been followed,” Thune added.

Asked what he would say to Republican senators thinking about endorsing a protest, which would force the Senate to debate and vote on an objection to a specific state’s electoral vote, Thune said it’s time for his party to accept the results of the election.

“I can’t tell them what them to do. I understand there are people who feel strongly about the outcome of this election, but in the end at some point you have to face the music,” he added.

“Once the Electoral College settles the issue today, then it’s time for everybody to move on,” he advised.

The left has gotten more and more radical, more lawless because of this attitude.

With GOP "leaders" like Thune in there, things will only get worse. He is their enabler.

Am so glad you were not part of Washington's army in 1780 after getting beaten in battle after battle.

We would have never gotten to Yorktown and been able to create this great nation.

And that is the truth.

To heck with Washington's army. I'm glad he didn't work for me.

Hang on, Thune.  Soon the Democrats will steal the runoff in Georgia and you will return to the minority position you so cherish.

Your statement would be thought provoking --- if you hadn't been saying it for five effing weeks.  Why is losing your natural state?

Realistically speaking Thune is correct, a challenge to the counted EVs in Congress is not going to happen.  But his premise must be re-butted.

The *outcome* of this election, Biden being inaugurated, will harm the country.  But the far greater harm is an unconstitutional electoral process enabling continued widespread fraud.  It isn't the outcome that demands protest, it's the non-credible process.

The court challenges have failed.  It's time to focus on changing the state election laws.  In some cases, this will require a change of governor.  This is not like scaling the Matterhorn ... all of those states tend to punish the incumbent President in the midterms.

Ok...and how as a nation do we move forward when there is no longer any integrity left at the ballot box, the SCOTUS wouldn't even hear a very valid case and the Constitution blatantly violated?

GOP Leader is an  oxymoron.

Only if you rule out "leading from behind"... which is where the RINOs are always most comfortable.   And yeah, I realize... that's not leading.
