Democrat asks Pelosi to refuse to seat lawmakers supporting Trump's election challenges

Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.) is asking House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to refuse to seat members of the next Congress who back President Trump’s effort to challenge the election.

The demand comes as more than 120 House Republicans, including Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), have signed an amicus brief supporting Texas’s election lawsuit in the Supreme Court.

The suit is asking the court to prevent Electors from finalizing President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in Georgia, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan.

“Stated simply, the men and women who would act to tear the United States Government apart cannot serve as Members of the Congress,” Pascrell said in a statement posted to Twitter.

If election law is allowed systematically to sink into nationwide corruption and the Constitution is to be ignored, then there is no longer any meaningful United States Government to tear apart, nor any real union from which to secede.

It is amazing that someone would attempt to exert leverage on people who are exercising their rights through the courts.

How long ago was the last physical action taken by one Congressman on another?
I seem to remember a story with a cane.

Has there ever been any firearms or were those duels?  That would be way back.

I am a fan of duels because they improve the general level of courtesy and manners.

Agreed.  And places like Texas can slip into running their own country.

Stealth nullification, gradually growing to complete independence.  And if a few like-minded states decide upon various discreet compacts along the way, well certainly no other state will have "standing" to complain.

Of course, Texas always has this option to pack the Senate.

For More Than 150 Years, Texas Has Had the Power to Secede…From Itself
A quirk of a 19th-century Congressional resolution could allow Texas to split up into five states

I seem to remember a story with a cane.

I don't know whether it was the last such act, but the celebrated story involving the cane was when SC Representative Preston Brooks severely beat Mass Senator Charles Sumner with a cane on the floor of the US Senate in 1856.  Sumner had made a speech which Brooks interpreted as insulting to one of his family.  Sumner was severely injured and spent three years convalescing, during which time his Senate seat remained empty.

Sectional controversies of course exaggerated that incident, and both men were lionized by their respective parts of the country.  Brooks broke his cane while administering the beating; he received many replacements from all over the South with messages on the theme of "Finish the Job."

Pelosi called on to refuse seating of GOP reps who backed Trump and Texas lawsuit

In a letter to Pelosi, Rep. Bill Pascrell, a frequent partisan critic of President Donald Trump and the GOP cited Sect. 3 of the 14th Amendment, a post-Civil War provision that “disqualifies from service any individuals who seek to attack American democracy, as well as Congress’ power to exclude Members by majority vote as acknowledged” by the Supreme Court in a 1969 case, a statement from Pascrell’s office said.

Today I’m calling on House leaders to refuse to seat any Members trying to overturn the election and make donald trump an unelected dictator.

If the House does indeed do this, there will be hell to pay.

There is zero patriotism left in the Democrat party.

My great great great great grandfather was mayor of Austin in 1854 when he shot dead on Congress Avenue a guy who had a squabble with him.  He was acquitted at trial as the fella had threatened his life.

So I suppose if they refuse to seat lawmakers from a state that is giving explicit permission for a state to secede from the union. They can't have it both ways.

Either the state is represented within the union or it is no longer part of the union of states.

Well, lemmmeeesseeee here...

If Ms. Pelosi and the demo-communists have the right (under the rules) to expel one or two members of the House (who happen to be Republicans), then...
... why not expel ALL of them...?

This would certainly simplify things going forward.
(for BOTH sides, I reckon...)
