Should I get a flu shot this year?
« on: December 10, 2020, 05:31:30 pm »
Just throwing it out there for discussion...I usually get a flu shot every year, and I'll be seeing my doctor for my regular visit in two weeks. I consider myself in good health, despite being Type 2 diabetic for 6-7 years.

I got my flu shot last year, but still got the flu last February, laid up for a week (could it have been Covid?). My wife's telling me not to get the shot, but I'm leaning towards getting it. Her various pronouncements and demands since she retired last year are wearing me out, it's getting to the point where whenever she says no, I say yes.   :yowsa:

BTW, I've lost about 5-7 pounds over the past month, I'm attributing it to cutting way back on fast food, don't see any other reason. I celebrated after my walk yesterday by getting a McRib.  lol

I got my flu shot 2 weeks ago...I always break down and do it.

Last Christmas I got sick..very sick for 3 weeks...not the flu.

I swear I had Covid..I had all the symptoms...Dr said it was bronchitis...I was weazing when I breathed...he never did a chest x-ray...I was on 3 dif antibiotics..finally prescribed doxycycline which finally worked.

I got mine a month or two ago, at my regular Doctor's visit.

You definitely had it worse than me. I went to a local urgent care, took a few tests, some antibiotics and an inhaler. They said it was the flu, and I didn't think about it until a month later when Covid emerged onto the scene.

Let's hope that our holiday season is a healthy and happy one.

Well, I've had two flu shots; one I was extremely ill afterwards and one I did ok with.

From my understanding the flu vaccine is given based on what strain that they believe will be the prevalent strain for the year -- so it may or may not be all that effective anyways.

Then there's the COVID vaccine on the horizon ... I question what impact if any it will have on the flu vaccine?

Frankly, this flu season especially, I don't trust either vaccine.

I figured it made sense to get a flu shot this year.  No reason to, if I should get sick, waste time trying to decide if it's flu or covid.

Knock on wood,  but most years I sail through winter unscathed.

I got a flu shot in October. No problems.

My doc advised me to get a shingles shot, since I’m over 50. I hear that one does make you sick for about 24 hours after.

No more flu shots for me!  And no COVID vaccines either!

I did get a flu shot this year, as I do nearly every year.

I don't recall any sickness after my shingles shot, taken a couple of years ago. Then again, I don't remember what I had for lunch on Tuesday.

I had the first shingles shot..got shingles albeit a mild case..then I had to get the latest version but had no side affects..it's a 2 shot vaccine.

I had my first shingle vaccination in September and other than a a sore arm no problem. At the end of October I went for my second shingle shot and also got a flu shot at the same time and I definitely  had a reaction, I was ill for two days. I believe I would have been Ok if I only got the second shingles shot.

There is no flu this year.  Not a single case.  No point in getting a flu shot.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

The "medical community" insists that you can't get sick from the flu shot .... b.s.  I've known too many people who have become ill after they were vaccinated including myself and I hadn't been that sick in all my life.

Right ... they will all be COVID cases.

From what I've read, 2 people have already died after receiving the COVID vaccine.

No thanks.

This vaccine was too rushed to be anywhere near safe.

A bit O/T, but I'm sure anyone that was stationed in Europe can remember the battery of vaccines given to us before departure. My arm was so sore that for 2-3 days, I couldn't move it without even more pain.

I will let you all know how the COVID vaccination goes after I get it.  Just don't know when that will be.

I'll get a covid shot when it's available which in my case probably won't be anytime soon.  (There are few workers less "essential" than nerds who draft pension plans.)  I have always reacted well to vaccines with little discomfort (this year, for flu and shingles).
