As legal experts scoff, Trump calls Texas AG Ken Paxton's election challenge 'the big one'
President Donald Trump on Wednesday moved to intervene in a U.S. Supreme Court case filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton that seeks to overturn election results in four battleground states, one which legal experts have described as a longshot.
“This is the big one. Our Country needs a victory!†Trump tweeted. “It is very strong, ALL CRITERIA MET. How can you have a presidency when a vast majority think the election was RIGGED?â€
Legal experts have said the Paxton lawsuit — which alleges that pandemic-related election law changes that were not approved by state legislatures were unconstitutional but offers few concrete or new details of election fraud — is unlikely to be accepted by a majority of the nine justices.
The suit also asks the Supreme Court to postpone the Dec. 14 presidential elector certification deadline to allow voter fraud investigations to be completed, despite no evidence of widespread voter fraud.
“The constitutional issue is not whether voters committed fraud but whether state officials violated the law by systematically loosening the measures for ballot integrity so that fraud becomes undetectable,†they wrote.
