While a large part of Michigan wasn’t expected to get into on Monday’s snowstorm, the storm took what could be a common track this winter.

When you look at the latest forecasts for this upcoming winter, a strong La Niña condition was the biggest factor in producing the forecast. A “La Niña stormtrack” could be an often experienced stormtrack this winter. I’m not saying the exact track this storm took would be the track, but rather the general notion of a storm coming from the southwest and bringing heavy moisture amounts.

Here is the precipitation forecast for this winter. You’ll notice a wetter-than-normal area expected from the southern Mississippi Valley northeastward into the Great Lakes region.
