Responding to the call of a federal judge whose 20-year-old son was killed by a gunman, Gov. Phil Murphy on Friday signed legislation to keep home identifying information of judges and law enforcement officials from the public.

Known as "Daniel's Law," the measure is in direct response to the killing of Daniel Anderl in July, when he answered the door at the home he shared with his mother, U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas. His father, Mark, was also shot but survived.

Salas pleaded with political leaders to respond with action, and New Jersey lawmakers did. She called the new law, which takes effect immediately, "trailblazing" policy.
