Sailor killed in 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor laid to rest in Arkansas

WINTHROP, Ark. >> After nearly 80 years, the remains of a Navy sailor who died in the attack on Pearl Harbor have been returned and buried in his home state of Arkansas.

Twenty-year-old Samuel Cyrus Steiner went missing in action Dec. 7, 1941, aboard the battleship USS Oklahoma, the Texarkana Gazette reported Sunday.

The remains of those who died aboard the Oklahoma were eventually reburied as “unknowns” in 46 plots at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific shortly before 1950.
