Maine Businesses Brace for New $18 Minimum Wage

Voters will soon learn that the costs imposed by minimum wage hikes do not go away just because they are invisible.

Portland House of Pizza has been around for 30 years. Restaurant manager Craig Allare hopes it will be around another 30 years.

But now he’s left trying to figure out how to keep that dream alive after the passage of a minimum wage hike that has many businesses in Portland, Maine worried.

"It's going to hurt everyone. It's not like we have money trees out in the back parking lot. You have to make money to pay money," Allare told a local news outlet. “Some places will go out of business.”

Round Table or Pizza the Hut or name of chain will likely be able to automate processes and reduce staff and maybe slightly increase prices to offset the government-mandated cost increase. Job Killing, Part 1. OTOH, single and multi-location Mom-and-Pop pizza places will likely be driven out of business, because they can't afford the machinery and their sales will probably decrease if they raise prices enough to the government-mandated cost increase. Job Killing, Part 2.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

I am already quite committed that I will never ever hire another employee in my life... And the lion's share of them ain't worth half that much. Horror highway....

From reading the source article, this isn't throughout Maine (the state), but limited to Portland...

No problem. The Maine customers are going to LOVE paying $18 bucks for a cup of coffee,1 a 20 percent tip,of course.

And the irony is by the time the employees figure how much their new raise is going to cost them in increased taxes and in their own purchases at other businesses, they will end up actually having LESS purchasing power.
