Murphy signs law banning plastic and paper bags, Styrofoam containers

TRENTON — Gov. Phil Murphy on Wednesday signed one of the nation's toughest bans on single-use plastic and paper bags and disposable food containers and cups made out of polystyrene foam. The ban goes into effect May 2022.

The first part of the law takes effect next November when restaurants will no longer be able to provide single-use plastic straws unless requested by a customer.

“Plastic bags are one of the most problematic forms of garbage, leading to millions of discarded bags that stream annually into our landfills, rivers, and oceans,” Murphy said in a written statement. “With today’s historic bill signing, we are addressing the problem of plastic pollution head-on with solutions that will help mitigate climate change and strengthen our environment for future generations.”

In the middle of a pandemic that caused even the eco-mad municipalities on the Left Coast to rescind their bans on single-use plastic bags for reasons of public health, NJ passes a ban not only on single-use plastic bags, but all single-use bags???!  NJ Leftists must really be a special sort of stupid.

One of America's worst governors strikes again.

I don't live in NJ, but I do have some close family members there.

If they want or need plastic bags, I expect they will simply drive into Pennsylvania or New York or do their shopping there.

In the meantime, NJ residents: if you find yourself searching in vain for reusable room trash can liners or pet waste collectors (as everyone but Phil Murphy seems to know are what people use plastic shopping bags for), I would suggest you stuff your unwanted waste in a Democrat politician's mouth.

Dog poop, indeed. As our Kroger has removed its plastic bag recycling receptacle, I have a lot of plastics I can send anyone who needs to pick up Fido's deposits.

Guess NJ is reverting back to the '60's, with glass IV containers.

I have always said that the enviro-whacko's would takes us back 150 years.  They are 1/3 the way there.
