White House Physician: Donald Trump Has COVID-19 Antibodies
« on: October 07, 2020, 07:14:31 pm »
Charlie Spiering 7 Oct 2020

White House physician Dr. Sean Conley said Tuesday that the president’s blood was showing antibodies for COVID-19.

“Of note today, the president’s labs demonstrated detectable levels of SARS-CoV-2 IgG (COVID-19) antibodies from labs drawn Monday, October 5th,” Conley wrote in a memo sent to reporters. He added that the president’s blood work drawn on Thursday did not show any antibodies.

Conley said that President Trump had been “symptom-free” for over 24 hours and fever-free for more than 4 days.

“His physical exam and vital signs including oxygen saturation and respiratory rate all remain stable and in normal range,” Conley wrote. “He’s now been fever-free for more than 4 days, symptom-free for over 24 hours.”

The president is scheduled to debate former Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday, October 15th, in Miami.

Biden on Tuesday appeared skeptical that the debate could still take place.

The treatment from Regeneron would not cause the immune system to produce antibodies. It "just" provides antibodies designed and created to attack the nCov-19 virus that do this while the patient's immune system creates its own antibodies. The good news in Trump's case is that his immune system has produced its own antibodies, which will continue to fight the virus and provide at least some degree of immunity after Regeneron's antibodies die off.

Stepping back to look at the larger picture:

* On August 23rd a convalescent plasma treatment - similar, except it uses antibodies from patients who have recovered - was given Emergency Use Authorization (EUA);

* Eli Lilly (partnering with AbCellera) has both a single antibody and a two antibody combination in Phase 3 testing; both are proving effective; Lilly applied for EUA approval for the single antibody treatment on 10/7 and will apply for an EUA for the combination in November

* Regeneron's two antibody treatment is also in Phase 3 testing.

The Trump Administration began working with AbCellera (there was an existing partnership that started in late 2017 in a DARPA project) toward their treatment on January 28th. And the Trump Administration began working with Regeneron on February 4th.

I hope the President does well when he's off the steroids.  THAT'S the humbug in his treatment, since I read from med people that COVID symptoms can come back.  But if he has the antibodies that may cancel out any reaction to not being on steroids.   Worrisome still.   But knowing him, he'll be back soon throwing MAGA caps to crowds!!!

The dexamethsone was given to prevent his immune system from over-reacting ("Cytokine Storm") and causing lung problems, not to fight the virus. Some TV doctor has claimed that steroids are only given to extreme cases. While it is true that prednisone is sometimes used as a chemotherapy agent, various sorts of steroids are used for different, much less extreme purposes. For example, after brain surgery, a steroid may be used to prevent inflammation and swelling. BTDTGTTS. Cortisone, a corticosteroid, is sometimes used to reduce inflammation in joints. BTDTGTTS.

This is a case of alarmist hype revealing agenda.

It IS interesting how they throw medical terms around, interviewing countless doctors.  All shocked about the President's "aggressive" treatments.  But they would be necessarily aggressive since he's the President!  And yes, he may get initial treatments not available to all, because of who he is.   That's the way it works!  And if you think about it, he's opened himself up to these "cocktails" as a sort of "public guinea pig."  And eventually the medications may be approved for the masses.

Absolutely.  My niece was given the same steroid (along with HCQ / zinc / azith) and she recovered at home.  After testing positive, she had a couple of teledoc appointments with her primary physician, and never needed to see a medical professional in person.

Nobody complained about Maverick John McStain getting aggressive treatments for his Glioblastoma.

Even though that cancer is practically a death sentence, meaning that treatment is useless except for quality of life. Meanwhile, COVID has a 98-99% survival rate at minimum.

"Not reliable indicators" will likely be the talking point.

While the antibodies Trump was given were created by Regeneron (similar to the treatments Eli Lilly has/will be asking for EUA from the FDA, and with the Vir Biotechnology//GlaxoSmithKline antibody that started Phase 3 testing 10/6) rather than being from convalescent plasma, they work the same way. The patient receives antibodies that attack the target virus while the patient's immune system figures out how to make its own antibodies. Use of convalescent plasma dates to the late 19th century.

At this point:

* Convalescent plasma treatment received EUA in late August;

* Eli Lilly just requested EUA for their single antibody treatment, and next month will request EUA for a combination treatment;

* Regeneron's two-antibody treatment has been in Phase 3 testing for about two months;

* Vir Biotechnology//GlaxoSmithKline started Phase 3 testing of their antibody (singular) treatment a couple of days ago.

For Trump-Haters who are POed by progress in which the Trump Administration played a key role, they're facing a month of anger.

Convalescent plasma treatment is available to anyone, subject to availability. Eli Lilly's and Regeneron's treatments should be available under "compassionate use"; Eli Lilly has said that if they receive EUA, they could produce 100K doses by the end of October.
