And when he's wrong, he's wrong. Worse than the Jim Crow south? Worse than the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War 2? Worse than the Alien and Sedition Acts? Worse than the Palmer Raids in 1919-1920? Really?
@RedHead Yes,in the sense of the number of Americans being affected, far worse.
As for the Jim Crow south, that is mostly BS.
I know nothing about the "Palmer Raids",but do agree the Japanese internement during WW-2 was a travesty of justice, while acknowledging the truth given back then that is never mentioned these days, that putting them in internment camps kept them safe from being attacked. Don't forget, the people of 1940 weren't as open-minded as the typical American of today, and there was a genuine danger of anyone Japanese being attacked on the street for no reason other than BEING Asian.
In fact,I have a good friend in Chicago whose uncle was attacked and beaten so badly the day after the Pearl Harbor raid that he spent the rest of his life wearing a diaper in a care facility. The ironic, and truly sad, part of this is he was on his way to enlist in the army when attacked. His brother,my friends father, enlisted that same day and won a Silver Star and a couple of Purple Hearts while fighting with the famous 442ND Regimental Combat Team in Europe.
AFAIK,the ONLY Japanese-Americans sent to fight in Asia during WW-2 were Marines, and they worked as translators.
