The disappearance and gruesome murder of Army SPC Vanessa Guillen shook up many people, but there were some that endured similar harassment who were not surprised. Lieutenant Colonel Deliris Montanez could have predicted the horrible tragedy, because the Army creates a culture that tolerates sexual harassment and attacks anyone who asks for better treatment.
LTC Montanez is a remarkable person, a super achiever with a natural gift for leadership. But, the Army doesn’t want leaders, they want bootlickers and politicians. As one Army captain says, “You bleep up to move up in the Army.â€
Among Montanez’s many talents, she is an accomplished body builder and a federal officer as a United States as a Border Patrol Agent. And, most refreshingly, LTC Montanez is a natural born leader. An Army with common sense would have promoted her to flag rank.
