The Democratic National Convention will be held from Monday, Aug. 17 to Thursday, Aug. 20. It will air for two hours each night, from 6 to 8 p.m. Pacific time.

Each night has been given a theme: Monday is “We the People,” Tuesday is “Leadership Matters,” Wednesday is “A More Perfect Union” and Thursday is “America’s Promise.”

    ABC News will air an hour of the convention from 7 to 8 p.m. (all times Pacific); digital coverage will stream on ABC News Live starting at 4 p.m.

    CBS News will begin covering the event on its streaming platform starting at 2 p.m.
 
The network’s TV coverage will air from 7 to 8 p.m.

    CNN will air convention news from 5 to 11 p.m.

    Fox News will air an hour of the convention, from 7 to 8 p.m.

    MSNBC will air it from 4 to 11 p.m.

    NBC News will show an hour of the event, from 7 to 8 p.m.

The official list is subject to change, but here’s who is scheduled to address the convention so far:

Monday, Aug. 17: Michelle Obama; Sanders; Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada, Doug Jones of Alabama and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota; Govs. Andrew Cuomo of New York and Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan; Reps. James E. Clyburn of South Carolina, Bennie Thompson of Mississippi and Gwen Moore of Wisconsin; and Kasich.

Tuesday, Aug. 18: Former acting U.S. Atty. Gen. Sally Yates, Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer of New York, former Secretary of State John F. Kerry, Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester of Delaware, former President Clinton and Biden’s wife, Jill Biden.

Wednesday, Aug. 19: Harris, former President Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco, Hillary Clinton, Warren, Giffords, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.

Thursday, Aug. 20: Biden and his family; California Gov. Gavin Newsom; former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg; Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms; Sens. Cory Booker of New Jersey, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, Tammy Duckworth of Illinois and Chris Coons of Delaware; and former presidential candidate Andrew Yang.

First night of Democratic convention to feature group of Republican speakers

Former New Jersey Gov. Christine Whitman and former Rep. Susan Molinari (R-N.Y.) are among former GOP lawmakers that will speak as part of Democrats’ virtual programming, organizers announced Monday.

Meg Whitman, the former CEO of Hewlett Packard, will also speak during the programming, as will former Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R), who the DNC had previously announced as a speaker.

Democrats' first night to focus on racial justice, COVID-19

Democrats will focus on racial justice and the coronavirus pandemic Monday during the first night of convention programming for the four-day virtual event.

The evening's events will consist of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden taking part in a conversation on racial justice, convention organizers said Monday.

Among the discussion's participants are social justice activist Jamira Burley, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D), Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo, NAACP President Derrick Johnson and Author Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner who died in New York City police custody in 2014.


House Democratic Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) and Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) will also deliver remarks. Clyburn will give his speech from a rooftop in South Carolina across from Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church, the site of a 2015 shooting when a white supremacist killed nine people.

Two controversial Catholic leaders to offer prayers at DNC

Two controversial Catholic leaders will lead the Democratic National Convention in prayer before and after former Vice President Joe Biden speaks on Thursday.

The speakers, Rev. James Martin and Sister Simone Campbell, will pray for national unity under a Biden administration with a series of other faith leaders addressing the convention this week, according to a press release from the Democratic National Committee. The DNC announced the roster before a Sunday event during which members of many faith traditions called for social justice, greater care for the Earth, and a focus on racial healing.

Martin said in a statement that his prayer will focus on "respect for the sanctity of all human life and for a nation in which all are welcome."

Martin, a Jesuit priest and frequent critic of President Trump, is controversial within the Catholic Church for his open attitude toward homosexuality, which has drawn criticism from more conservative members of the church hierarchy. Throughout the 2019 Democratic primary, Martin offered praise for then-South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who is gay, for articulating "the connection between his faith and his love." Martin joined Buttigieg to speak at an awards ceremony for religious gay leaders, drawing criticism from many Catholics.

    Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and 2016 GOP presidential candidate John Kasich traded barbs ahead of the former Ohio governor's Monday night speech at the Democratic National Convention.

Kasich, who will be speaking out against President Trump, his one-time rival during the 2016 primary, said during an interview with Buzzfeed News that he thinks the U.S. is "moderate" and that "extreme" politicians -- like New York Democrat Ocasio-Cortez -- receive "outsized publicity."


"You know, I listen to people all the time make these statements, and because AOC gets outsized publicity doesn't mean she represents the Democratic Party," Kasich said. "She's just a part, just some member of it. And it's on both sides, whether it's the Republicans or whether it's the Democrats.”

Ocasio-Cortez, who backed Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders during the Democratic primary, fired back in a tweet, accusing Kasich of "fighting against women's rights."

Priest invited to pray at Democratic convention promises to mention protecting the unborn

Catholic priest Rev. James Martin promised to pray for the protection of the unborn at this year's Democratic National Convention.

In a Tweet on Monday, Martin said, "I will be praying for a respect for the sanctity of all human life and for a nation in which all are welcome."

When asked to clarify if he would be specifically mentioning protecting the unborn in his Thursday remarks, Martin responded to the Washington Examiner's Jerry Dunleavy in the affirmative: "Yes."
