De Blasio: Threat of 22,000 layoffs is 'painfully real'

The mayor has also asked state legislators for authority to borrow money to pay expenses, but Albany lawmakers have so far balked.

NEW YORK — New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city is moving forward with “painfully real” plans to lay off 22,000 public workers on Oct. 1 unless another source of cash comes through.

De Blasio confirmed the layoff plans are progressing after POLITICO first reported Tuesday that agencies have been ordered to come up with a list of employees being considered for job cuts by the end of next week.

“The overwhelming cost of local government is personnel. Where we put our money is into the people who provide services to New Yorkers, whether they’re first responders, health care workers, sanitation workers, educators, you name it,” de Blasio told reporters Wednesday.

His years of hard work creating a socialist "paradise" are coming into focus.  He has shown everyone what will happen once democrats get control of the government.  As Trump predicted, a socialist "paradise" is a third world sh*t hole. :yowsa:

As long as none are police, I'd call laying off 22K bureaucrats a good start. Cumo and de Blah-Blah are killing NY's and NYC's economy, so I don't have a lot of sympathy for these bureaucrats who were getting paid while productive people have had their businesses crushed without even an opportunity to show they could do business safely.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

OTOH, 22K layed off folks may have 10 voting friends and family.  Deblaz probably won't worry about a 250K voting loss next term.  /s

As I recall, they cut the trash collectors first, then anything public safety.  Blue states are all in a mess.  Its almost like they are in competition for being the most mismanaged sh=thole in the country.

Unfortunately many people are moving out of liberal NYC/NY and going to red states -- let them keep their socialistic mindset in NY. They voted for people like Blasio and Cuomo.   Don't want them or need them here in FL.

The dead weight in the office is the last to go. You know that it starts with cops, firemen, EMS, and anyone who actually does anything for the public, face to face.

The more conspicuous and painful the cuts are for the public, the more likely the outcry to fund it, whatever it takes.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
