Good Riddance To Drudge
Derek Hunter

Posted: Jul 30, 2020 12:01 AM

It used to be a thrill for conservatives to get “Drudged” – to have their piece linked on the Drudge Report. It meant traffic (which translated into money) and that a large audience would see it. It probably still means those things, only now it means them to progressive writers and websites. Whatever Drudge was, it’s not anymore.

You’d be hard-pressed to spot the difference between the Drudge Report and the Huffington Post. Aside from his love of weather porn, Tom Brady, and anything Oprah or transgender-related, you might as well go to CNN. At least with CNN you’re getting it from the primary source.

There are all sorts of stories about what happened to Matt Drudge, as happens when someone is a paranoid recluse. Some say he sold the site to anti-Trumpists, others say he’s soured on Republicans because they didn’t build the wall. Rumors are rampant.

He may well have sold the site, it’s his to sell if he wanted to and who wouldn’t at least be tempted if someone drove a Brinks truck to your house and offered it to you so you wouldn’t have to work anymore?

The only good I got was that one link he had early on, "Whitewater Files."

Best alternative I found after deep 6-ing the POS Drudge. This site  even has the same formatting.

This was better  https://web.archive.org/web/20010408073917/http://alamo-girl.com/0463.htm

But I admit to finding TOS on Drudge all those years ago.

Same here.

I was always suspicious that Matt Drudge was truly a conservative.  What he did was find an niche, exploited it, and the cashed in and moved on.  He is nothing but an opportunist.

DRUDGE was my homepage since Monica Lewinsky.

Must have hit that page dozens of times each day.  That doesn't include the automatic refresh/page which adds another visit if you're already viewing.

Then along came Windows 10 with Chrome as search engine.  Can no longer choose my own "homepage".  Google search it is.

DRUDGE is a classic example of how media is being manipulated, depending on who signs the checks.

I changed my home page from Google search to Bing. Less tracking/advertising and a interesting new page image each day.

You can change your home page to anything you like. TBR is mine currently. My search engine is Duck Duck Go.  I'm running windows 10 Pro using Chrome browser.

I like that as well but I find it to be more of a resource hog.

Anyone using Microsoft Edge browser?

I'm thinking of switching to it from Chrome. Chrome is a spy.

Only if you allow it to be.

I use Vivaldi. It uses the same base as Chrome but is managed differently.

I don't know if  I was going to Drudge as long as you have, but it was a long time.
Then earlier this year I started noticing more anti-Trump articles and hysteria over the virus.
We were all going to DIE!!!!!!!.  And this is after news about HCQ and other promising drugs emerged. None of the positive news about the virus were reported on Drudge, only the negative we're-all-going-to-die blurbs.
So, I haven't linked to Drudge for three months now. Don't really miss it.  I don't care about RuPaul or any other sexual weirdo either. Or Oprah.

There was speculation that Drudge had conducted some kind of "sale" regarding his site.

Perhaps the entire site... perhaps just "editorial control" of the links posted there... unsure.

I also read that he had some kind of "no competition" clause in the sale, that expires after the election.

I'm surprised that with such rumors, no one can substantiate them...

Another Vivaldi user. Nice.

I had been using Opera but then I found out they sold out to the Chicoms and their founders started Vivaldi a few years later.
