The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission suspended liquor permits at 18 bars over the weekend, including six in Houston, as part of an enforcement sweep after several hundred owners said they would open in defiance of Gov. Greg Abbott’s closure orders.

A spokesman for the commission said Monday the agency still investigating whether the violations were related to the protest, known as “Freedom Fest,” which was organized by a Fort Worth bar owner. The commission conducted 1,600 inspections over the weekend, about twice as many as normal.

Each of the 18 citations will result in at least a 30-day liquor license suspension.
