US no longer 'flattening the curve' of coronavirus pandemic, administration official says
By Jessie Hellmann - 07/02/20 02:53 PM EDT

The U.S. is no longer “flattening the curve” of the COVID-19 epidemic, a Trump administration official told members of Congress Thursday.

“We are not flattening the curve right now. The curve is still going up,” Adm. Brett Giroir, the assistant secretary for health at the Department of Health and Human Services, said during a House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis hearing.

“Flatten the curve,” which means to slow the rate of COVID-19 infections, was a mantra used in the early days of the pandemic when officials were worried about overwhelming the health care system, particularly in New York.

Giroir noted that the curve was successfully flattened at one point, but the U.S. is once again seeing an increase in cases, led by states in the South and West.

Arizona, California, Florida and Texas make up about 50 percent of the new cases in the U.S. every day.

The U.S. is the only country that has faced three different waves from three different directions.

The initial wave from Wuhan expats hit Washington and had minimal impact, so much so that it lulled America into a false confidence.

The second wave from Italy devastated the Northeast, but is now under control.

What we're seeing now is the third wave from Latin America. Those countries have not shown any signs of success, and it's spilling over—and no amount of continuing to harp on "social distancing," "cancel everything" and "mask on your face or blood on your hands" will address this.

Oh, no one is getting ANY other virus's anymore?  ONLY COVID?   So, Arizona, California, Florida, Texas, have the most
cases?  My state is not listed, but most in those states are hispanic.  In my state, it is RARE to see any hispanic wear a mask or practice social distancing.  Does anyone mention there is about 98 % survival from COVID?

I think you're absolutely correct, but, what is the harm in wearing a mask and washing your hands?  None that I can see. If by chance that mask that you wear saves a life, what's the harm?

They've shut down bars again in my area -- bars didn't limit their numbers, and many piled them in. We've reached a record 10,000 new cases today, and close to 400 in my county alone.  Not good.

IF we had a choice...none. Mask wearing can be harmful. A Veteran told me, that people who are alone in their cars and wear a mask are passing out at the wheel.  That is dangerous.  I say, those who want to wear a mask, fine, those who don't want to, should be allowed to practice their bill of rights.  So scared?  STAY HOME.

Governor in Oregon says black's don't have to wear a mask.  Didn't they say, they are most  "susceptible"  to covid?
Does not make any sense.  Washing hands?   How do you prove that?  How can you prove people ARE washing their hands?  I don't believe ANY....MEDIA.

I find it a little strange that the U.S has 4.6% of the world's population, one of the best health care systems in the world, but has had 25.3% of the C-19 cases in the world.  This just doesn't add up.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

I sense that it has something to do with Hispanic culture. They (as a cohort) seem to harbor less concern about taking personal actions that might reduce their risks of getting the virus, or passing it to others.

I'm convinced that this was one reason the virus spread so quickly here in Connecticut -- most CT cities have large numbers of illegal Hispanics.

On the other hand, the CT suburban towns have fewer illegals or none at all. And the infection numbers in them are dramtically lower.

I stopped going to markets and places like Walmart here in town back in March. I drive about 10 miles north where the infection rates are lower. My rationale is that the best way to avoid the infection is to avoid infected people. And the chances of being in proximity to infected people are far greater here in town. So I get outta town.

Sure it does... if you connect the "election year" dots.
