A case in point: The London Times headlines: “New antibiotic promises to win war against superbugs.” The discovery of antibiotics was one of the great milestones in human history, but in recent years the microbes have been winning the war, and few new antibiotics of much significance have been discovered.

In the laboratory they killed off a strain of gonorrhoea resistant to all other antibiotics. They were also effective against gram-negative bacteria, which have an outer layer that shrugs off most antibiotics. No new classes of gram-negative-killing drugs have come to the market in nearly three decades.

This may be somewhat early in the testing process, but it sounds promising.

Noting today the "study" that had discounted Hydrochlorochuine, was retracted.

Which means to me, there may really be more hope for HCLQ.

The studies which purported HCQ was ineffective or damaging were obviously and deeply flawed. None included the administration of zinc supplements which are a critical part of the regimen. Whether politically or profit motivated, or just bad science, they cost lives through ignorance or incompetence, at best.

I've been hearing this claim of new breakthroughs in antibiotics for years, and yet the problem of resistance persists.
