The Air Force's new helicopter and the Army's Apache flew together for the first time
Samuel King, US Air Force

The Air Force teamed its newest combat search and rescue helicopter, the HH-60W Jolly Green II, with the Army's AH-64 Apache to training in Florida in May.

It was the two aircraft's first flight together, and the Apache's unique configuration gave the Jolly Green team an opportunity to test the new helicopter's capabilities in ways normally not possible.

Those common, vibrating "thwip" helicopter sounds arrived well before they showed up, as 413th Flight Test Squadron personnel turned to look to the North here May 19. Seconds later, two helicopters appeared and the sounds and vibrations intensified.
