Larry Gautreaux, 95, was a Navy man, and his wife Annette, 96, a Navy “WAVE.” Now in their 90s and living at the state Veterans Home in Bristol, they recall their wartime service at Pearl Harbor, where he built military infrastructure and she was a cook.

They are thought to be the last ones — the only remaining couple in Rhode Island who both served in World War II.

Larry Gautreaux, 95, was a Navy man, and his wife Annette, 96, a Navy “WAVE,” as women sailors were called.

The two are now in the state Veterans Home in Bristol, Annette one of six women among almost 200 residents, since you need to have served to live there.

They’re one of only two couples in the home, the other younger.
