“But my claim to fame, I was there on the landing on Okinawa. I spent a year there and then came home,” Billetdeaux said.

GIBSONIA, Pa. —

It was an Armed Forces Day celebration with a special twist on Saturday in Gibsonia. A local war hero was honored on his 100th birthday.

Dozens of people Bryce Billetdeaux knows, and some he has never even met, paraded through the streets of Gibsonia to wish him a happy 100th birthday.

The World War II U.S. Navy veteran said he never imagined he would see 100, partly because he was turned down so many times when he tried to join the Army.
