The Six Shooter is my favourite radio western, bar none. (Starred Jimmy Stewart as a laconic wanderer who helped folk along the way and never shot his gaudy pistol unless he absolutely had to. Lasted one year but should have lasted more.) It was written intelligently and sensitively and without about ninety percent of the cliches that helped devolve Westerns.
The show's theme music was Charles Williams's "Highland Lament." And I've just found the 1945 recording that the producers of
The Six Shooter used for its theme, so I thought it'd be a nice way to open the new thread . . . if there was a more perfect piece of music evoking lonely wandering around old West I haven't heard it yet. It's Williams himself conducting the Queen's Hall Light Orchestra . . .
