Watergate prosecutors call for judge to ignore DOJ recommendation to drop Flynn case

Sixteen former Watergate prosecutors have called on the federal judge who will determine whether to grant the request by the Department of Justice to drop charges against Michael Flynn to follow through with the sentencing of the former national security adviser to President Trump.
In a motion filed Monday and obtained by CNN, the 16 prosecutors compared the actions of Attorney General William Barr to Watergate, the criminal investigation that led to President Nixon's resignation.
Last week, Barr requested that the Justice Department drop the charges against Flynn of lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia shortly before Trump took office.
"The parallels and the contrasts between the Watergate affair and the present situation now before this Court make manifest that Amici have a direct and substantial interest in the proper disposition of the pending Motion directed by the incumbent Attorney General to protect a close ally of the President,†the prosecutors wrote.
