@Applewood

Name ONE President in the entire history of the US who has done even half as much, despite a the Dims presenting a united front to prevent it,along with their brothers, the RINO's.

As for the rest of it,how do you think any other candidate would have had more luck against the Dims and their united front, while his fellow alleged Republicans were stabbing him in the back?

@sneakypete

First of all. let me clarify -- I put the blame for the party's failure to keep their promises on ALL of them., from the president on down.

Secondly, as president, Trump should have been able to work with Republicans in both houses to get things done.  Yes, congress has to pass legislation before the president can sign it.  But I should think as president, Trump should have been able to exercise great influence over those lazy bums in congress He should have been conducting regular meetings with party leaders.

No.  Instead he started his presidency by attacking congressional Republicans, accusing them of being in the swamp or something.  Now I'm sure that was impressive to his supporters, but it accomplished nothing.  Put yourself in their position.  Would you want to sit down with the president on a regular basis if he attacked you and called you names?

And yes, he did have problems with the Democrats as well.  But as far as I can tell, he didn't really try to engage them.    Oh I did see a few photo op bipartisan meeting where Trump threw a temper tantrum and stormed out.  Again, entertaining to the fans, but it accomplished nothing.

President Reagan knew how to get things done.  He worked with his own party leaders and he schmoozed Democrats as well.  Remember that Tip O'Neill, the Democrat Speaker of the House, was a golfing buddy and a guest at the ranch.  President Reagan might not have accomplished all he wanted, but he was able to work with his own party and the Democrats to at least get something.    Trump can't even work with his own party.

Trump may well win re-election, particularly if life gets back to normal and the economy is humming along again.  But don't expect that same success to necessarily translate into Republican victories in the house or senate.

Don’t be ridiculous. Donald Trump’s deft management skills are far and above superior to any rival in politics, D or R. I’d like to see any of his ill fated rivals navigate the hurtles involved in building a skyscraper in a foreign country through to completion that hard working Donald Trump has done on any given Monday in his long and storied career.

Yes. So many beta males have TRUMP ENVY.  You don't, but you are well adjusted.  (Tiny joke as I read you are a chiropractor?)

Sure because everything on TV, LEFT PBS, MEDIA AND BOOKS  ARE ALL FULL OF FACTS.  HA!   You believe everything written in a book?  Start to think for YOURSELF.   BTW. All libraries are closed.  Nice put down.  NOT. You would be called a useful idiot by Stalin.

P.S. First you wrote Fred Jr. died at age 41. Now he died at age 43.  . Make up your mind.  Bye.

Quote from: Absalom on April 26, 2020, 11:33:27 PM
Donald inherited the business only because of the early death of his brother at 41.
Just checking, you know you quoted Absalom accurately above your inaccurate post right?

@sneakypete

First of all. let me clarify -- I put the blame for the party's failure to keep their promises on ALL of them., from the president on down.  [...] President Reagan knew how to get things done.

Quote
Top 10 Reagan Achievements
Human Events, Feb 6, 2011

1. Ending the Cold War:  The Cold War had raged since World War II and communism‘s quest for world domination remained an existential threat to the United States when President Reagan took office.  Reagan reversed the policy of detente and stood firm against the Soviet Union, calling it the Evil Empire and telling Mikhail Gorbachev to “tear down this wall” in Berlin.  He was relentless in pushing his Strategic Defense Initiative and gave aid to rebels battling Soviet-backed Marxists from Nicaragua to Angola.  Those efforts were critical in the ultimate collapse of the Soviet empire and essentially ended the Cold War.

2.  Reaganomics:  Reagan’s mix of across-the-board tax cuts, deregulation, and domestic spending restraint helped fuel an economic boom that lasted two decades.  Reagan inherited a misery index (the sum of the inflation and unemployment rates) of 19.99%, and when he left office it had dropped to 9.72%.  President Obama take note:  Under Reaganomics, 16 million new jobs were created.

3.  Revitalizing the GOP and the conservative movement:  The Republican Party was at its nadir after Watergate, but Reagan was able to form a winning coalition of fiscal conservatives, family-values voters, blue-collar Reagan Democrats and neo-conservative intellectuals and set the stage for future GOP electoral gains.  His free-market, small-government, pro-liberty conservatism helped to revitalize the GOP and his influence resonates today as conservative candidates still invoke Reagan as their standard-bearer.

4.  Peace through Strength:  The military was diminished during the Carter years, but Reagan reversed that by rebuilding the armed forces.  His Peace Through Strength philosophy was manifested by his reviving the B-1 bomber that Carter canceled, starting production of the MX missile, and pushing NATO to deploy Pershing missiles in West Germany.  He increased defense spending by more than 40%, increased troop levels, and even got much-needed space parts into the pipeline.  Those efforts ensured that America remained a military superpower.

5.  Morning in America:  It was basically a slogan for Reagan’s 1984 reelection bid, but Morning in America symbolized a new beginning for the country.  Reagan’s jaunty optimism and an economic boom was a much-needed tonic for a country that had experienced the malaise of the Carter years and the traumas of Watergate and Vietnam.

6. Star Wars:  Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative was derided by his opponents as being technologically unfeasible, but the mere threat of the U.S. building the system was instrumental in the Soviet Union’s collapse.  The successful use of Patriot missile batteries in the first Gulf War proved the critics wrong, and the missile defense system that ensued has lessened the threat of ballistic missiles.

7. Nuclear weapons cuts:  Even as massive demonstrations were held in Europe against Reagan’s hawkish stance on nuclear arms, the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty he signed with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev eliminated an entire class of nuclear weapons.  He also laid the framework with Gorbachev for the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START), which reduced both countries’ arsenals of nuclear weapons.

8. Voiced values:  Reagan gave voice to the values that had served America well—thrift, patriotism, and hard work—and often recounted the wisdom of the Founding Fathers.  He also championed the causes of the pro-life and family-values movements that sought to counter the societal upheavals of the 1960s and 1970s.

9. Tax reform:  Not only did he cut tax rates, but the Tax Reform Act of 1986 simplified the income-tax code by eliminating many tax shelters, reducing the number of deductions and tax brackets.  Reagan’s dream of tax returns fitting on a postcard has been nullified as Congress has regressed and continued to make the tax code more complex, necessitating a new push for reform.

10. Taking on PATCO:  Early in his administration, members of the federal air traffic controllers union (PATCO) went on strike, violating a federal regulation.  Declaring the strike a “peril to national safety,” Reagan gave the workers an ultimatum and ended up firing more than 11,000 of the controllers, sending a strong signal that union workers needn’t be coddled.

And what will Santa be bring you this year? Maybe if you are good, you can get a sleight ride from him?

Yes, congress has to pass legislation before the president can sign it.  But I should think as president, Trump should have been able to exercise great influence over those lazy bums in congress He should have been conducting regular meetings with party leaders.

THAT's funny! Ford decades most of those critters have been cutting backdoor deals with each other to collect payoffs from global corporations, and you think Trump should be able to stop that and get them to act responsibly, when even you bitch and moan about practically everything he does.

Quote
No.  Instead he started his presidency by attacking congressional Republicans, accusing them of being in the swamp or something.

Translation:  Bad Orange Man tried to get congresscritters to do the very things I am blaming HIM for them NOT doing.

Yeah,THERE is some real clear thinking!*

Quote
Put yourself in their position.

WHY would I do that? *I* am NOT a traitor.

Quote
Would you want to sit down with the president on a regular basis if he attacked you and called you names?

Translation: Weeza spossta be able to attack HIM,but HE is not allowed to attack back! Bad Orange Man,BAD!

Quote
And yes, he did have problems with the Democrats as well.  But as far as I can tell, he didn't really try to engage them.

I like the idea of engaging the Dims, but I have a military POV on the word "engaging".

Quote
Oh I did see a few photo op bipartisan meeting where Trump threw a temper tantrum and stormed out.  Again, entertaining to the fans, but it accomplished nothing.

COMPLETELY his fault, right? After all,ALL they were trying to do was get him to break his promises so they could all pull in some of that great Chinese money!

I liked Reagan, but Trump has already accomplished more than Reagan did in two terms. Unfair,I know. Reagan
had a LOT more support from the alleged Republicans than Trump gets.

In MY dream world,at least half of those backstabbing treasonous bastards need to be ran out of office and then put on trial for treason for putting their Dim buddies and business partners in the graft biz ahead of country.
So,I don't give a rats ass. MY dream is to have all those bastards have a conservative primary opponent, and then lose the election to them.

The Prime difference between people like you and I is that  you consider yourself to be a Republican, and I consider myself to be an American. They are NOT the same thing.

Not uncomfortable at all. TRILLIONS in spending counteracts all. It doesn't matter what else he did or didn't do. That big fat elephant in the room won't sweep under the rug. PERIOD.

Edit to add: Not that I accept those 'facts'... They just don't matter a whit, so not worth the argument.

It's a waste of bandwidth and a nuisance to scroll past, fortunately we just had a Briefathon so we should be good on the first point, but personally, I'd rather stick a MAGAPILL up my azz than wade through all this $hit on a daily basis, but that's just me.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

@Right_in_Virginia

Thank you for that list. President Reagan and my Dad are my only two heroes.  Alas, both of them are gone and there won't ever be anyone like them ever again.

Smokin,
I don't have a solution to a Biden/Trump option but permit me to ventilate a thought.
Thru history, Great Britain has had the most renowned Parliamentary system in the world
whose PM's needed to hold the confidence of its Members of Parliament, to retain their power.
Those who could not, were replaced, which included some as famous as William Pitt, the Elder.
I'm suggesting that the Republicans must come to grips w/the need to replace Trump w/Pence.
This would have a trans-formative impact on the fall election by sending a lima-charlie
message to voters, that the GOP rejects the personal and political corruption of Biden
as well as the undisciplined attitude and behavior of Trump.
Have you ever watched Parliament debate?
They can get downright contentious, and rowdy, too.
There was a time when our own Congress would clear the air in session.
Trump is closer than the House or Senate to that.

Y'see, through all this, I figure The Almighty has a plan. We don't know it, beyond the endgame, and there is even some debate about that among believers.
There have been times He has used those less than perfect to perform acts for Him.
Now we have specific ideas as to what would be  more glorifying for Him, each of us, and this not being a religion forum, I won't go into that.
But turning this Country from Godless Communism just might take someone who is rough around the edges.
The last 75 years of making nice and pandering and being polite sure haven't reversed the trend.
 I figure it's worth a shot.

That said, get the ducks in a row, because 2024 is just around the corner.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Um...I'm a conservative, not a Republican.  And regardless of our respective political differences, we are both Americans, as is everyone else on this forum.

TRUE.  Thank you. I had to show the actual list to make a point.  NOT TO SPAM.  A visual. They won't read it, but it was said he "did nothing", one too many times for me.  Gas lighting.
