N.Y. Gov. Cuomo announces new task force aimed at reimagining ‘future of state’
OAN, Apr 21, 2020

Instead of focusing on when New York’s economy will be able to reopen for residents to get back to work, Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) announced a new task force to “reimagine” New York.

During the Democrat governor’s daily coronavirus task force press briefing Monday, Cuomo said it’s time to think about how to build a better post-pandemic future for the state.

“How do we use this situation and stop saying reopen, but reimagine and improve and build back better?” he asked. “Now is the time to do it and that’s what we’re doing in a multi-state regional coalition, and that’s very important because that is the smartest way to do it.”

The new task force will look into issues within New York like improving transportation, education, health care systems and public safety. The group will partner with New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio (D) and other local leaders.

The state is seeing improvements in the number of new COVID-19 cases with less than 500 deaths in a single day reported on Sunday, which is the lowest number since since April 2.

However, Cuomo said New Yorkers need to stay put until it’s absolutely safe to return to life as they knew it. He urged residents to continue practicing social distancing and said statewide lockdowns offer a perfect opportunity to “really plan change” and improve the future of the state.
