From back in my early early days in the State Dept. of Health, (As inspector and Microbiologist), I've always been somewhat of a disinfection freak.  Don't get me wrong, I am not a germaphobe by any stretch, but there are things that I do and avoid for public health benefit.  I mean things like saving leftovers, to my aversion to eating food from personal kitchens I haven't seen....

Here is my brief COVID-19 primer.....

Incoming items...   We have deemed a 100 or so square feet garage area for non-disnfection deliveries.  That area remains in quarantine, for a time specified from a list that I have found on various sites..

Cardboard- 1 day
Steel- 3 days
Plastic-3 days
Glass- 4 days
Copper - 4 hours
Wood- 2 days
Paper- 1 day
Cloth- 2 days
Paper Money- 4 days

Since we do have a few pre-existing conditons, we opt for grocery pickup, and take more precautions than those with less risk.  When we return, a disinfection station is established.  Method includes:

(1) Pre-prep of a 10% bleach solution in a spray bottle, and a sizable cloth rag.
(2) Card Table set up near vehicle for grocery processing
(3) Wash hands, and sterilize all peripheral areas in vehicle, and card table with bleach solution
(4) Have ample supply of pre-Q'ed plastic bags for grocery processing ready.  Do not use/re-use cloth bags unless they have been washed.
(5) Disinfect all items being removed.  As a good rule of thumb, either a "one second" contact time, or a obvious liquied residual should be adequate.  Be careful not to cross contaminate, pre-prep areas and areas storing cleaned items.
(6) As a team, have spouse, child, whoever periodically pickup and put items in correct Fridge/Freezer/Pantry locations.  Keep clutter to a minimum.
(7) After completing all items, isolate bags, and other non-home items to garage Quarantine area for specifed time listed above.
(8) Disnfect all areas, knobs, switches, etc, of home and vehicle, after processing.
(9) All involved wash hand throughly.  And as another good rule of thumb, after washing, you know you've done a decent job if your hands smell like a swimming pool.   happy77

Thanks for that info @catfish1957 .  Very helpful!

I'd like to share a conversation with a close friend of ours who is a physician...... an infectious disease specialist with decades of experience and expertise......

She became aware of COVID in professional journals back in January when it was basically publicly unknown.  She and her (physician) husband took it seriously and wore masks on an overseas flight even then.

When they came back, she helped our local hospital prepare for the pandemic by fitting every Dr., nurse and staff member with masks.  They also purchased extra PPE early on because she knew they would be needed.  She advised (and the administration listened), that they transform a nursing unit to a COVID floor, and a section of the ER specifically for COVID patients.  The Drs and nurses who worked there did not go to any other sections of the hospital and no other personnel other than those designated went to that floor.

As a result, there have been no casualties among hospital staff.  There has been only 1 death in the hospital.

She said that the threat will remain and people should be careful probably until December.

Masks make a big difference and we should wear them.  Social distancing makes a difference. Cleansing makes a difference.  This is a highly contagious disease.

For the handful of skeptics here, this is a brilliant doctor with decades of experience who is also a close personal friend.  There are no political filters through which the information has come.  There is no political agenda.  There is no conspiracy.  The information isn't coming in a soundbite or meme.

Just facts from an extremely competent expert.

Some of you will dismiss it because it doesn't fit the agenda you have chosen to believe, but it is real information.

Character still matters.  It always matters.

Again, we could have done all of that without shutting down the economy.

Perhaps on a smaller scale, but as things reopen, it’s clear that it can’t be business as usual in places like restaurants and bars and numerous other businesses.

I also don’t know how we could have prevented massive spreading if we hadn’t closed schools and suggested that churches would be better off not meeting in large groups for a while.

The problem is that no one knows with certainty what things would look like if we had done otherwise.......

Not that that fact will prevent people from pretending they do.  *****rollingeyes*****

I agree.

I don't know. I haven't been out of work. My son and daughter are. I think yesterday the governor said hair salons would be allowed to reopen. Which puts my daughter back to work. In another week. It is waiting for the chain gang salon corporate people to get their act together.

Her friend showed up on a surprise visit. From Portland, Oregon. She said she is getting paid $400 more per week than her job pays. Per a 40 hour week. She is a salon manager. And in fact, she took over my daughter's position when my daughter came back home last year.

So, Why, even though I am still working, not getting that added per week stimulus on my paycheck?

You know the answer to that one, @bigheadfred.  It's the same reason you get to pay taxes.  You're a sap.  There's a story somewhere about a Restaurant owner in Maryland who wants to reopen, but he can't get any of his employees to come back to work because they're making money hand over fist on the new, improved supercharged Unemployment bennies.

I suppose I should chuckle at your d's visitor from Portlandia, but for some reason I'm not very amused by it.

Anyone that goes back to work is no longer eligible to receive the extended unemployment and if your hours haven't been reduced you are not eligible for unemployment anymore.  Both are taxable.  The so-called stimulus checks that were sent out are not taxable.

Well,  I might be stupid, but between unemployment and the $600/week, I'd be making better money than I am now working. But I hate jumping through the unemployment hoops, especially in a time when there is no work in my field, so I just snagged a job. Maybe this fall if we're $40 trillion in debt...

You cannot refuse to go back to your job (unless you have a child to care for while the schools are closed down) and the employers are supposed to notify unemployment of your return to work.

Also, I believe it was the beginning of this week, those collecting unemployment, now need to claim their weeks.

Those still collecting unemployment and working; well, that is considered fraud.  It is my understanding that if one is caught that their eligibility for future unemployment becomes suspended for a period of time depending on how many times they've been caught.

In the case of the Maryland restaurant, I believe the dodge is they all have kids, and the State Warehouses for Kids (known euphemistically as "Schools") are all closed, possibly until 2021.

No, you're not stupid.  You still have to pay taxes on that $600/week and the limit on that is 4 months.  Yes, it's a nice chunk of money, but I pity the people who are sitting back milking the government for all that they can and then realize that they have to pay taxes on that money.  What are they going to do when they finally get up off of their butts to look for work after that 4 months is up and realize that everybody before them scrambled to find jobs and there aren't any jobs to be found?  That money was meant to hold people over until their place of employment opened or until they were able to find another job.  Sadly so many look at it as free money.

I know of a gal who refused to go back to work claiming she had no one to watch her kids (she lives with her Mom and she watched them when she worked prior to COVID).  The bimbo posted a picture of herself out with friends on the beach, with no kids on Facebook.  The employer turned her butt in!

I just read of a fellow from California who went to Hawaii.  He didn't self quarantine and started posting pictures of himself all over Waikeke on instagram.  The cops looked at the metadata on the pictures, located him, knocked on his door and hauled him off to jail for 14 days.

If masks help, then why are we releasing prisoners without them to "save them from COVID-19?"  Can't we just keep them in jail, with masks, and stop throwing non-criminals into jail for resisting?

Two separate issues (maybe three) that shouldn't be conflated.  Releasing prisoners has nothing to do with whether or not masks help.

No offense to you personally, Cyber, but I've seen more illogical comparisons trying to diminish the truth about COVID in the past weeks than I've seen about anything in my life.  The FB memes going around are barely coherent, but they always get a "SEE!  I told you so" reaction from a few.

Irrational 'thought' has never been more prevalent.  (Again, not talking about you, but your non-comparison comparison brought it to mind).

Character still matters.  It always matters.

Quote
the truth about COVID

No one knows what the "truth" about the Wuhan Virus is because no one is being honest about it from any angle.  We have any accurate numbers on deaths, people infected, etc etc.

Are we supposed to tay confined until the curve is flattened or until there's a vaccine? Do we only open certain businesses slowly one at a time under a 17.5 point system?  Or do we open them all now?

Do we arrest the guy windsurfing all alone at the beach or deny the right to run your business because they dared to open and seat people on Mother's Day?

It's all based on faulty software and guesses and it's been used to unnecessarily scare the shit out of people to the point where they are accepting a forced confinement "for their safety.

So when you start taking about "truth" it's laughable because there is no "truth" to what's happening to us where this virus is concerned.

Oh and the masks are worthless...just like the quarantine of healthy people.

The libs/dems of today are the Quislings of former years. The cowards who would vote a fraud into office in exchange for handouts from the devil.

See these?

Guess what?  They aren't called "face masks."  They're called "spit masks."  Their purpose is to catch the saliva of the wearer, and do zero to protect the wearer from any kind of germs and viruses.  I used them for years in a Clean Room where people wear bunny suits.

But, they are now being marketed like they're protective face masks.  A Talisman to ward off germs.  Howard Hughes would be in heaven.

The masks that help are N95 masks.  This is a N95 mask:

For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16
