NYU scientists: Largest US study of COVID-19 finds obesity the single biggest 'chronic' factor in New York City's hospitalizations
Doctors at NYU Langone Health center conducted the largest study so far of US hospital admissions for COVID-19, focused on New York City. They found obesity, along with age, was the biggest deciding factor in hospital admissions, which may suggest the role of hyper-inflammatory reactions that can happen in those with the disease.

For months, scientists have been poring over data about cases and deaths to understand why it is that COVID-19 manifests itself in different ways around the globe, with certain factors such as the age of the population repeatedly popping up as among the most significant determinants.

Now, one of the largest studies conducted of COVID-19 infection in the US has found that obesity of patients was the single biggest factor, after age, in whether those with COVID-19 had to be admitted to a hospital.    ...

Yesterday I saw a story about a 25-year-old who died of the virus. Turns out he was grossly overweight (as evident by this Facebook photo).

In his last known in-person service on March 22, Bishop Gerald O. Glenn got his congregation at Richmond’s New Deliverance Evangelistic Church to stand to prove how many were there despite warnings against gatherings of more than 10 people.

A California police officer died of coronavirus complications after doctors twice shot down her requests to be tested for the bug, according to a report.

Santa Rosa police Detective Marylou Armer, 43, was only able to secure a test that confirmed her diagnosis after it was “too late,” her family told the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Where the researchers are documenting creating a virus out of a SARS virus and a bat borne Coronavirus.

The result sure sounds al lot like SARS-CoV-2, the active agent in COVID-19.

Is this a hybrid? Yep, no doubt.
Is it lab made? I'm (after reading this publication, co-authored by two chinese scientists from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences) 99.999% sure.

Nature is a fairly well respected journal in  scientific circles. No one is saying to limit your reading material, nor anyone else's. However, in the interest of getting facts out there, I will post that access and even go so far as to summarize the facts, with sources, so my summary can be verified. IIRC, the Hydroxychloroquine/Z-pack/Zinc Sulfate is forbidden by Gubernatorial edict in California. Prayers up for her family. I wonder if she had any of the underlying conditions noted as risk factors elsewhere aside from her BMI?

I think only Michigan and Nevada had Governors so anti-Trump they issued edicts to try and stop Doctors from prescribing that cocktail.  Newsome resisted the siren call.

So is Nevada's, and that's a more immediate concern of mine.  Laughlin, Vegas and Reno are dead with the Casino Resorts all closed up.  8,000 out of work in my town, tens of thousands in Vegas, where they're laying off Cops.

Old and obese people are more likely to be hospitalised with the coronavirus than cancer or lung disease patients, research suggests.

Two New York University studies looking at 8,000 patients found being over 65 or having a BMI above 30 were the biggest risk factors for COVID-19 admissions.

In one paper, researchers found almost half (46 per cent) of all patients hospitalised with coronavirus were aged 65 or over. ...

Elderly people are more likely to succumb to the coronavirus because the immune system weakens as people age, making it harder to fight off the vicious disease.

Obese patients are more prone to serious infection because their immune system is preoccupied with trying to repair inflammation caused by carrying excess fat.  ...

I kind of wondered about that, too.  It seems in many cases - including the hospital where my daughter-in-law works - they've shut down so much of the elective procedures and such that they are way under normal capacity, never mind stretched beyond capacity.

@mountaineer @Polly Ticks That is the argument we need to get to.  There are some states that don't need to quarantine, but the media only says another 2k Americans died today, and a new record death toll.  I wish my President was good at communicating.

Louisiana now has a statewide stay-at-home order.  I am currently under quarantine at work for the next two weeks.

Quarantine ended April 9.  No more new cases popped up after Mar 26.  I am now at home.  Technically, I could have left before then, but I felt the better option was to stay with my co-workers, man my post, and complete the 14 days.

New York City’s official coronavirus death toll has soared past 10,000, after thousands of deaths that previously went uncounted were added to the city’s statistics.

In a new count released Tuesday, 3,778 more deaths were added to the rolls — driving up the previously recorded total of 6,589 by more than half. Now, the city records 10,367 deaths related to the virus.

Previously, the city had not counted people who died at home without getting tested for the coronavirus, or who died in nursing homes or at hospitals, but did not have a confirmed positive test result. Mayor Bill de Blasio admitted last week that the true number of deaths was far higher than the official tally, and said the city would start including presumed coronavirus cases in its data.

So now they don't have to actually prove someone died of coronavirus.  They merely have to "presume" it.

If this isn't evidence of inflation of mortality figures, I don't know what is.
