A SARS-like cluster of circulating bat coronaviruses shows potential for human emergence

Abstract

The emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)-CoV underscores the threat of cross-species transmission events leading to outbreaks in humans. Here we examine the disease potential of a SARS-like virus, SHC014-CoV, which is currently circulating in Chinese horseshoe bat populations1. Using the SARS-CoV reverse genetics system2, we generated and characterized a chimeric virus expressing the spike of bat coronavirus SHC014 in a mouse-adapted SARS-CoV backbone.  ...

Our work suggests a potential risk of SARS-CoV re-emergence from viruses currently circulating in bat populations.  ...

"they BUILT a CHIMERIC virus that included protein spikes whose designed function is to penetrate cells via the ACE-2 receptor AND they tested this gain of function IN VIVO."

3)  The US imposed a prohibition upon "gain of function" research. The person who is identified as tech lead for protein spikes (the key function that allows exploitation of the ACE-2 receptor for example), has since associated with the level 4 bio lab in WUHAN.

4) Credits section says: "Z.-L.S. provided SHC014 spike sequences and plasmids.”
And where is this “Z.-L.S.” now?

From the Abstract:

Quote
Although public health measures were able to stop the SARS-CoV outbreak4, recent metagenomics studies have identified sequences of closely related SARS-like viruses circulating in Chinese bat populations that may pose a future threat1,6. However, sequence data alone provides minimal insights to identify and prepare for future prepandemic viruses. Therefore, to examine the emergence potential (that is, the potential to infect humans) of circulating bat CoVs, we built a chimeric virus encoding a novel, zoonotic CoV spike protein—from the RsSHC014-CoV sequence that was isolated from Chinese horseshoe bats1—in the context of the SARS-CoV mouse-adapted backbone. The hybrid virus allowed us to evaluate the ability of the novel spike protein to cause disease independently of other necessary adaptive mutations in its natural backbone. Using this approach, we characterized CoV infection mediated by the SHC014 spike protein in primary human airway cells and in vivo, and tested the efficacy of available immune therapeutics against SHC014-CoV. Together, the strategy translates metagenomics data to help predict and prepare for future emergent viruses.
Considering the Wuhan Lab connections, was the work done in North Carolina shared/stolen/transferred and used to make the SARS-CoV-2 strain that causes COVID-19?

I am not accusing any of these researchers of any improper activity, but the connection to the epicenter of this outbreak is hard to ignore.

Coinkydink? Was someone in Wuhan replicating research done in North Carolina?

There's a lot of arrows pointing towards a lab leak in Wuhan. China's attempt to bury all information about it immediately after the first people got sick only further confirms this. China needs to pay a very heavy cost for what they've done.

@DB I'm wondering if this doesn't tie in with China trying to blame the US for the virus?

Bannon's war room show had someone talk about how Fauci has said he believes the info from China. Now, I don't know when Fauci last said this but apparently he did say it at one point and that is weak.

FYI -- I didn't know where to post this, but I was able to go into my state's health department website to find the number of positive coronavirus cases by zip code.  I don't know if every state is doing this, but if so, it will enable you to see how many confirmed COVID-19 cases are in your immediate area and surrounding area.  Keep in mind that these numbers only represent people who have tested positive.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

@LegalAmerican  Note post #576 this thread, which I have added information to which should have been in the original post. Note that two researchers from the Wuhan Indstitute of Virology were working on creating novel coronavirus strains with researchers at the University of North Carolina, and this letter was published in Science in November of 2015.

It is difficult to look past researchers tied to viral labs in Wuhan researching creating novel corona viruses from bat borne corona viruses and the likely tie to this outbreak and pathogen.

All roads lead to a lab, not a market. The description of the effects of the SARS CoV-2 sure sound like the chimeric virus created in the lab.
Researchers from Wuhan involved in 2015 give the Chinese plenty of time to replicate that research, with that or other viral forms to produce a novel Coronavirus.
The release may range from intentional to someone picking up a little money on the side selling animals to the wet market, to an accidental release of a novel, lab made pathogen.
Least credible to me, although virology is not my area of expertise at all, is the idea that this is a spontaneous and natural chimeric variant of a bat virus that naturally occurred and transferred to humans.

This is not a normal time. I had to post all those actions, so those who think, WRITE,  nothing is being done by POTUS.  The way I understand it,  each STATE, IS TO KEEP THEMSELVES PREPARED for all issues. Then if they can't, to seek help from federal agencies. We found out that NY Cumono, sp?  was HIDING his ventilators & supplies, then claiming POTUS did not give him any. Democrats do have a mental issue. Corrupt and evil thinking.

Blast from the past.Nature Magazine

Larry Schweikart is discussing this on

Twitter:
Thanks for bringing that article to my attention. Wow, and while not precisely damning, means, opportunity, motive are all present. Especially considering the actions of so many Democrats have played into the outbreak to actually maximize the damage done. This reeks of war, of treason, of sabotage and espionage, and frankly, murder, for political (Democrats) and/or economic (China) gain.

The situation stinks on ice.

HUGE! From CDC Website: Hospitals to List COVID-19 as Cause of Death Even if It's "Assumed to Have Caused Or Contributed to Death" - Lab Tests Not Required
By Cristina Laila
Published April 4, 2020 at 5:25pm

...    The amount of Americans who are reported to have died from the Coronavirus is based on a CDC coding system that will “result in COVID-19 being the underlying cause more often than not.” ...

The U07.1 code will be used for death by Coronavirus infection.

However, there’s another secondary code, U07.2, “for clinical or epidemiological diagnosis of COVID-19 where a laboratory confirmation is inconclusive or not available,” the CDC guidelines read.

“Because laboratory test results are not typically reported on death certificates in the U.S., NCHS is not planning to implement U07.2 for mortality statistics.”   ...
Gateway Pundit

I understand this may explain why Sweden's death figures seem so low - they're not attributing a death to Covid-19 unless it truly was directly caused by Covid-19, and not from other physical conditions or illnesses.

I saw Dr. Fauci on one of the morning tv shows.  He was asked about the malaria drug cocktail.  He said there was mixed information that it actually worked.  Everything I've read from experts including Dr. Oz seems to indicate that it does indeed work.  Just wondering why the negative response from Dr. Fauci.
