"I grew up in the 50/60s south of the Mason Dixon Line in an area that was about half black. I never had any problems, either, because I knew good and bad people of all walks of life and colors, and often worked alongside and played with them as I had from my childhood. It wasn't until the agitators from DC came down and started friction that I even noticed much that the differences were there, as 'black and white' had just been descriptors like tall and short or thin and fat to us."

I realize that neither you nor anyone else in the forum will agree with me, but the reason you were able to live that way -- in relatively close proximity to blacks yet still maintain "a peace" -- was because of that much-maligned policy called "Jim Crow".

It provided a "structure" by which the races could exist near each other without too much clashing or friction.

It was only once this system was forcibly dismantled by Northerners that racial friction began to increase.

Of course, I had no problems with J.C. when I lived down south (1960/61), but then again, I'm of Euro ancestry.

BTW, I also believe that the event which led to the destruction of South Africa was the dismemberment of Apartheid. They should have kept it, and told the rest of the world to mind its own business...
Was it 'Jim Crow" or was it people seeking people most like them? There are/were some cultural differences, although in general most people want the same thing for their kids--success, and better for their children.

There were parallel economic brackets, the two nightclubs in the area were mainly black clubs, owned by black owners, who wore suits as nice as any other seen at Church, and one even had a white jockey statue holding the light by his driveway. Whites partied elsewhere as a rule. Especially apparent, though were the schools, and upon integration, there was friction--the white kids were dressed down by a white music teacher for being an unruly lot, the school was impeccable clean, and the discipline enforced there had traditionally been strict. (The kids were getting scholarships to Howard out of High School, or athletic scholarships to schools like NC State.)

Yep, a lot of friction and the eventual dismantling of discipline in the ranks of a generation came from integration. Where, with agitation from national groups,  a white principal dared not discipline kids who were not white for the career ending assault over "racism", and black administrators and teachers had a similar problem with disciplining white kids. The result was that the discipline needed not only to learn, but in everyday life broke down as white kids said "Hey! I have equal rights, too!", and proceeded to break the same rules that black kids did.

In four years it was a sh*tshow, one that had been imposed over the objections of members of both communities.

(Thankfully, I was presented with an opportunity to go to a private school my last two years, which saved me academically, if not just keeping me off a bad path, but not everyone had that, and only those who had the determination to make something of themselves and the parental support to stay out of trouble generally succeeded in avoiding the multitude of pitfalls presented to adolescents in those days and succeed. The rest had a much harder time recovering from those years, and some just did not.)

I'm working my way through Bleach on Crunchyroll. It's Japanese anime with over 350 episodes.

Foreign film filmed around 1988 Called "Time of Violence" Part I and Part II (over 4 hours long). About how the ruling Islamic rulers treated the Christians (kidnapped the children, raped the women, forced conversions, ect...). Heartbreaking...

Both versions are on Youtube (have to sign in, some nudity parts). I just downloaded both of them to watch at my leisure (and didn't sign in).

Just tonight I finished watching a series on HULU called 'Shark' with James Woods.
Give it a 7 of 10. It is watchable and interesting, but just a little weird.

It is a legal drama cross between House, CSI, and Batman.
Shark can do anything and Shark always wins.
The biggest quirk on the show is fast walking.
Meaning that many of the scenes are the group fast walking somewhere while discussing the case.
In Hollywood terms, fast walking-talking means the characters are too busy to stop.
They are on the move and getting stuff done! It gets old over time.

But, it is worth it if you have the time. Just don't try to put logic or reality into the story the show is telling.
It doesn't work. It is right on the edge of being a kind of superhero story.

Started to watch the series "Clarice" that is showing on Amazon Prime and CBS.

Started out ok,even given the standard "Rogue FBI agent fighting against the Borg and winning causen she's smarter, sterner, and more honest than the "wear red and march in a straight line" Feebs.

1st class acting by all involved, and ok plot lines. Can't remember the name of the actress that plays Clarice now,but she does justice to the "Agent Starling" of Silence of the Lambs.

Also,Clarice's southern accent is just a little bit too thick to tolerate well.

The problem is she is sharing  an apartment with another Feeb agent, and this one is a black female that is,of course, smarter than her, more dedicated than her, works harder than her and who DREAMS of wearing red and marching in a straight line, and because she is black,of course she has to work 10 times as hard as her rommie Clarice to get the same sort of job assignment and STILL hasn't accomplished it.

First few episodes there were just roomies who were besties because they were both wimmins and wimmins working a mans job in a mans world. No big deal,as well as reasonable.

Ok,all standard teebee stereotypes that I could have handled if the plots were there, but then in one episode Clarice tells her black female roomie "I love you." out loud. The next episode there are slightly suggestive references by Clarice's friends about her and her roomie.

Won't be watching it again because I get the feeling it will only be a few more episodes before they are swapping spit and rolling in the sheets.

This is NOT the Clarice of "The Silence of the Lambs".

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I also wanted to review a movie I watched on Amazon last night, and can't remember the title and can't find it on Amazon this morning.

It is about the "bread war" in northern England in the early 1800's. Biggest industry is the textile industry, and basically there are two classes of people, the uber wealthy mill owners, and the workers.

The mill owners are either aristocracy or pals with them, and pretty much run everything to their own advantage. They pass a law making it illegal to import wheat into northern England because they also own the wheat farms and want to keep their profits jacked up high, while actually reducing the wages paid to the factory workers.

Not much real drama. The workers organize and start throwing around phrases like "give me liberty or give me death!" (gee, wonder where they got THAT one from?) and start demanding their rights as British citizens.

Nice touch of history most of us know very little about, plus being English, the scripts are first class, and so is the acting and the scenery.

If someone is aware of the title, please feel free to post it.

This sums up my problem with modern TV and movies. I don't give a rats ass if some woman loves another woman and shacks up with her. What I don't like is that they have to make it a centerpiece of the show. Every show has to go out of its way to show you how progressive they are. It detracts from the show in the same way gratuitous heterosexual relationship stuff would. I don't want to see voluminous amounts of either in a crime drama, because it's not relevant!

But alas, there's no avoiding it unless you want to restrict yourself to watching older content. Fortunately, the fast forward feature in the Amazon movie player works really well. I just hit pause, and then press the forward button, and it shows me a little video preview / timeline thing. This makes it easy to just skip past that scene - problem solved.

I noticed the "gratuitous faggotry" in television and cinema years ago, not only not necessary to the plot, but not to the development of the characters in many instances --simply irrelevant to the story--and surmised its only purpose was to 'mainstream' the behaviour through desensitization. In my case that not only did not work as I believe the writers/producers intended, it just made the issue more of an aggravation. Shortly after that, at the first instance of gratuitous faggotry, I turned that series/movie/show off, and found something else to watch. The almost obligatory 'soft porn' (and sometimes not so soft) breaks in an otherwise tight plot are not much better, and often elicit a similar response, even though I don't find heterosexual behaviour as patently disgusting.
To each their own, I suppose, but I don't have to watch it.

It is a pity, because shows that had started out so well, ended right there for me.

Exactly. It also takes away from the show because it forces the viewers to consider some factor that has nothing whatsoever to do with the plot. So he/she/multiple choice is a homosexual. Big whoop!

It is not only irrelevant to the show, but is a distraction that takes attention AWAY from the show.

Yep,and I have stopped watching a lot of shows over the gratuitous social programming on them.

At the same time, it's easy to see what 'they' are going to push next, because the preparatory bombardment comes from the 'entertainment' industry. That puts a whole different spin on the phrase "television programming", because it is being used to program the audience.

There is very little programming on television these days that I find worth watching so I spend my time doing other things.  I do watch every episode of Seal Team and things like Gold Rush and Moonshiners.

The snails pace and continous rehash is a detraction, I will grant that.

The latest season of “Genius” started last night. This season’s genius is Aretha Franklin.
National Geographic channel.

The Simpsons had its 700th episode last night, it was a goodie. Man, I feel old, I remember watching the first episode on Tv when it was taken from the Tracey Ullman show.

And still as "on target" as ever. In FACT,I went to traffic court a week or so ago for a speeding ticket, and ran into "Officer Cartman". Told him to kiss my big red ass when he tried his "Because I am the Chief of the Court and *I* tell you to,is why!"

I hope he never gets over it. It didn't occur to me until I had my back turned to him and was walking out of the building that he might try to grab me from behind, and was planning "bad things for him" if he did. Luckily he just stood there with his jaw hung open while I walked away.

STILL don't know what he was mad about. He refused to tell me. He would only say "Because I told you to,that's why!"

THAT SOB really needs an attitude adjustment. Just glad I am not the one stuck with giving him one.

@BassWrangler ...

There is a good show that is 15-25 years old on Prime that I am enjoying called Time Team.  It's British, and the premise is a fairly large archeological team tackles a mystery site within the constraints of a 3 day weekend. Being under the gun, time wise, it allows for pretty quick action as far as trying to find artifacts or proof to formulate a solution to the site.

Show is definitely for those with interest in history and archeology, others will find it boring.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.
