Senate Democrats block mammoth coronavirus stimulus package
By Jordain Carney - 03/22/20 06:50 PM EDT

Senate Democrats on Sunday blocked a coronavirus stimulus package from moving forward as talks on several key provisions remain stalled.

Senators voted 47-47 on advancing a “shell” bill, a placeholder that the text of the stimulus legislation would have been swapped into, falling short of the three-fifths threshold needed to advance the proposal.

Hopes of a quick stimulus deal quickly unraveled on Sunday as the four congressional leaders and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin failed to break the impasse. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) also delayed the procedural vote for three hours as they tried to get a deal.

Democratic senators argue that the GOP bill includes several “non-starters” and walks back areas of agreement, such as expanding unemployment insurance, they thought they had reached with Republicans.

Well the article mentions unemployment.  If its the Republicans going back on paying workers unemployed do to COVID 19 they can drop dead.

We know that Trumps hotels and golf courses should come first in the money giveaway.

Gee ... that didn't last long .... just when I thought that just maybe ALL of Congress would come together to help America.  Silly me.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

If its 47-47 why wouldn't the VP cast the deciding vote?

Dems need to be careful here, playing the typical games they play on something like this might blow up in their faces.
The Republic is lost.

That's what I was wondering ... and then reports are saying Mitch says he's going to take up the vote on Monday??  98 votes and we have 100 senators.  Who abstained?

The bigger problem now is both Mitt and Rand are self isolating.

Nancy Pelosi Nixes Bipartisan Talks on Coronavirus Package
Sean Moran 22 Mar 2020

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said on Sunday that she has decided to move forward with her own emergency coronavirus relief package.

Pelosi spoke just hours before the Senate was scheduled to take a procedural vote that would lead towards a final vote on a bipartisan economic relief package. The bill would provide economic relief after the coronavirus epidemic ravaged the country’s economy.

“From my standpoint, we’re apart,” she said.

Subsequently, Senate leaders decided to delay a planned vote to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said on the Senate floor on Sunday that he intended for the legislation to be bipartisan and aimed at helping the American people.

“What we have is a compromise product which contains ideas, contributions, and priorities on both sides and which could become law as soon as tomorrow,” he said. “In other words, it’s just about time to take yes for an answer.”
Pelosi and McConnell met with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Sunday to compromise on the third phase of the congressional coronavirus response package.
Pelosi said that Republicans and Democrats are still “talking,” but that there is no need to meet McConnell’s Monday deadline for a Senate vote on the coronavirus package.

It would be simple for the Senate to cgange rules, to allow for remoote voting in view of the circumstances.

It was covedred in today's Pres. press conference.

Glad that when McCain was still walking this earth that they didn't come up with remote voting when he was in treatment.

Because it wouldn't have been the deciding vote.  This vote required 3/5ths of the Senate to advance, not a simple majority vote.  It wasn't a "tie."
