Democrats call for stimulus to boost Social Security benefits by $200 a month
By Alexander Bolton and Mike Lillis - 03/21/20 12:11 PM EDT

Senate Democrats on Saturday unveiled a plan to increase monthly Social Security benefits, veterans assistance and Supplemental Security Income benefits by $200 a month, which could further add to a stimulus bill that is now estimated to cost between $1.3 trillion and $1.4 trillion.

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) joined Sen. Ron Wyden (Ore.), the senior Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) in calling for the expanded benefits to be added to the phase three stimulus bill.

The additional benefits, which would last through the end of 2021, would provide seniors, veterans and people with disabilities an extra $4,000 over the next two years.

People who receive SS benefits are far less likely to be working and are significantly less impacted economically than those who work and are losing jobs.

You can also bet the Democrats don't want to stimulate anything prior to this year's election - other than buying votes with other peoples money.

IIRC the $200 SS giveaway was one of Warren's last-gasp hare-brained efforts to slow down her death spiral. It must be tough thinking up new ways to give away other peoples' money.

I'd benefit from this, but I don't want them to do it.  It's more important to keep the people idled by the lockdowns solvent than it is to kick some more beer money at me.  I'm retired, they need to work.

ETA:  My little town is about 35,000, and 8,000 of them became instantly unemployed when the Governor of the state across the river from them closed down all their workplaces by decree.  Casino, Restaurant and Hotel employees all pink-slipped.  Those people need help, I don't.

For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16
I will NOT comply.
