(CNSNews.com) - A group of 24 Democratic U.S. Senators—including Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin of Illinois, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Sen. Kamala Harris of California—sent a letter to acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf, acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Matthew Albence and Acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan asking them about “the policies and procedures their respective agencies have in place to prepare for and manage a potential spread of the coronavirus among detainees and staff in DHS facilities."
The senators asked these administration officials, who are responsible for enforcing the nation’s immigration laws, what guidance they had given subordinates “regarding the application of discretion, including the discretion to release individuals on recognizance†during the coronavirus crisis.
