I hear ya.  I'm really not a fan of chain restaurants.  Give me the local Mom-and-Pop greasy spoon joint any day.  Most of the time I get good homemade (not frozen or prepackaged) meals  for cheap.

That's right.

Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Almost all of the legislators are behind this, Rand Paul, I don't know.

Some say the cost will actually be more if we or congress if that's the case,  do nothing, society might really collapse.

Airline capacity will be the first thing to go if nothing is done, moving people around the country because the companies will go under.

A lot of small businesses will fail without a cash infusion. That means jobs lost. The funding to the small businesses will go through the SBA.

If they are asking people to stay home and avoid crowds, etc. etc. as much as possible, are we asking them to give up their wages too.

Most legislators are for this, it is sort of biting the bullet.

Definitely KC steaks can't be beat.

Well darlin, there ain't a dang thing wrong with a chunk of good ol Montana Angus, I'll tell you what... Grass fed its whole life on a high mountain meadow...

Quote
As for ribs, we have a guy in the inner city that starts his grill/smoker first thing in the morning ... he feeds those in his neighborhood.  He doesn't have a restaurant front and I've never had the nerve to stop and ask him if I could try some.  Best bq I've had was at an old (slanted floors and tables) restaurant shack in Memphis.  Fall of the bone, melt in your mouth, honest to goodness all day b'que.

So I was down in Olathe KS working construction, see... But we got laid off for a mite, so I picked up some dock work to meet the middle. So one of those guys on the dock was a big ol black redneck boy... I waited till we were fair acquainted, and asked him where was the best rib joint in town...

He took me into KC, to the most disreputable rib joint I have ever been in - same thing - Wonky tilted floors, so much smoke and grease on the walls that you couldn't tell the color anymore. Blues playing in the background...

It was a bit uncomfortable to start with, I'll admit, me being the only white guy for a mile around, and in sh*tkickers and a bailey hat to boot, but man oh man! That was the best ribs I have ever had... And good folks too, btw. I don't think I would have survived to even get close to that place, had he not brought me there... and they sure looked at me sideways with a stink eye to start with... But everybody loosened up and we had a high ol time.

One of my favorite people, and one of my best times away from this valley. And I am in awe of that food.

I prefer Rand Paul's proposal about suspending federal taxes and eliminating penalties and fees.

If no stores, venues, bars, restaurants, etc. are open, what is $1k going to do to "stimulate" the economy?
It is commonsense to allow the productive to keep more of what they legitimately earned.  Let them choose how it is best spent.

Giving a thousand bucks to a homeless drug addict on the streets of San Francisco will do nothing to stimulate anything but another bottle or drug dose for him.  Guess Romney wants those votes next time he is up.

And this is how the Progressive desire for a universal basic income becomes a reality.

That's disingenuous.

Trump/Mnuchen want to pay for only those needing it, ie below a certain income level.

Romney has explicitly said ALL American adults are to receive a check.

It is likely the start of universal income... I would not be surprised.
And no, it is not disingenuous

It appears Trump is losing control of this situation and doesn't really know what to do. He's handling as well as he can as no one has ever seen anything like this.

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

With this "free money" scheme and the proposed bailouts of airlines and other businesses, Trump has shown he is not the "conservative" his supporters say he is.   He never really "evolved" (his supporters' term) from his days as a Democrat.

You are right. Trump is not calling for the same thing as Romney, AOC and the others on the left. There is a distinction.

However, I cannot support either approach. This isn't the responsibility of government. We taxpayers are hurting, too. Making us pay for this is just too much.

I'm betting that you're just fine with socialism.....

except when it comes from "this" President.

"Free money" isn't socialism, no matter who is the president. It's just fiscally unsound.

That's been the theme song for 40 or 50 years now.  National debt is at $22T, and no telling how much more this crisis is going to add.  Hopefully not the tipping point and a subsequent  massive depression.

Yeah never mind there are real pandemics that have killed more that the left just yawned at.

I understand that, but keep in mind that this "pandemic" is just beginning.  It's not over. Cases here in Florida doubled in a 3 day period. In my county of appx. 750,000, our hospitals are at capacity already. We don't have the number of beds available now.  I read that we may be able to get the extra respirators that may be needed, but there wouldn't be enough trained respiratory therapists to handle the situation. 3 new field hospitals are being launched for the entire state; it's a drop in the bucket but it will help.

Containment is critical.  I could care less about past pandemics and the reaction from the left.  I care about this pandemic and how its being handled.

It sounds like you think he should just let the virus take its course and allow the elderly population who are most effected to die off.

Sounds like a great plan!  *****rollingeyes*****
