Oh, so it is just a more wealth distribution.

This will all have to be paid back by a future  generation

I might be wrong but then at some point don’t you have to declare it as extra income on your taxes?
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

No, it won't.  This is freshly created money, not borrowed money.  It is similar to what the Weimar Republic did in the 1920s.  The value has already been stolen.  The only way to fix it will be to take $1 trillion in tax revenues, put it in a big pile, and set it on fire.

At first I heard that all adults will be getting a check.  Then I read that they will be using tax returns to determine who will be getting a check.  So I'd assume that those receiving social security, disability or other gov't funding won't be getting anything.  To me that's a kick in the butt, because those receiving social security have paid into it.  Yes they have to draw the line somewhere, but as I mentioned before, they can't afford to give a raise that will actually help to those collecting SS, but they can afford this??  They can't.

This is interesting

Trump Pushes $1.2 Trillion Stimulus, $1,000 Checks in Two Weeks

excerpt:
The idea of issuing checks to Americans has been endorsed by lawmakers across the ideological spectrum. But it may not be practical to get money to Americans as fast as Trump desires. When Congress sent stimulus checks in 2009 to combat the financial crisis it took more than two months from the signing of the bill to checks hitting the mail.

It’s quickest and simplest for Congress to send the same amount to every individual person, but still will take months to happen, Marc Gerson, a former tax counsel for the House Ways and Means Committee, said. If lawmakers decide to give more money to lower-income workers, it becomes even more complicated.

“There are practical limitations with cutting checks,” he said.

1.  The IRS has every personal tax return
2.  The IRS has every address/direct deposit information and has the processes and tools to send money to over 100 million people.
3.  Have the IRS issue "refunds" to those that fit the criteria...

I just read this morning that schools may be closed for the remainder of the year.  In  my county they have extended it till April 15 and EACH child will be given a chrome notebook in order to connect with the school.  Keep in mind though that NO online classes have been set up!  In addition, a governor who I have liked and I am now questioning has shutdown ALL further testing of students and the parents can elect whether or not to send them on to the next grade level!!  ???  When does this all stop??  This is absolutely ridiculous.  Aren't the kids the ones who supposedly will be affected mildly by this?  So, why are they keeping them out of the school system???

The county commission has declared a state of emergency (we have 7 cases in county), BECAUSE if they don't declare a county emergency they are not eligible for $$ from the feds.  Therefore, libraries, dog parks (seriously), toll booths will be closed.

$10,000,000 question --- when do they plan to open everything back up?

7 cases and we are virtually shutdown.

Yes, I full believe we need to contain this virus and take precautions, but no one has said when they are going to open everything that they are shutting down....meanwhile the feds are bailing out everyone and their brother and every industry and small business.

Well the good news is.....

that complete collapse of our economy that many of us knew was coming, ultimately....

will happen a lot sooner now.   No sense in prolonging the inevitable any more... right?    :thud:

What "is" the criteria?   Those that have thousands or hundreds of thousands in their savings, yet are tax payers?   Seems to me those that most need the help are those out of work due to this pandemic... and those at poverty level already, struggling to pay for things they need (food, medicine, etc.).

Why can't people simply keep their hands clean and keep their distance, stay home if they are sick, keep their kids home if they are sick, keep everyone home if someone has the virus, and otherwise go about their daily routines?  That wouldn't cost the government a dime.

Because after a month or more of 'self-quarantine'....some people 'need' a perpetual baby sitter for their brood (public schools) to keep them from going the rest of the way, officially, insane....lololol.   I can envision some parents, after a month of two cooped up in a house full of bratty, bored, and/or also sick kids, saying what the hell.... how much worse than this can getting the virus be?

LOL! That thought crossed my mind as well. I made my "swan song" trip to the grocery store yesterday. There were so many screaming, crying kids with runny noses it amazed me. I thought how tough it would be to be stuck in the house with them.

I'm probably wrong (surprise!!) but when Bush gave money back to people after 9/11, wasn't it actually an advance on tax return bucks?

This could be the same thing.

If I recall it was around $600.00 that had to be claimed on your tax return the following year.

  • I don't believe in Trump anymore, he's an illusion
So, when the congress passes one of their notorious big budgets, the market "crashes" because they don't like debt.... but when the administartion seeks big money to help the economy, then wall street likes it.... fickle?
That last word, it starts out right but then goes all wrong

That's what I recall. The amount sent might be bigger...but it could be taxable as well.

1. Print more money
2. Inflation goes up as the value of a dollar drops, because there are more dollars
3. Your savings aren't going to buy as much as they used to.

This is a tax on your savings.
