This crash event has a much more ominous feel that what I remember in '87, 00, and '09.

Really want to see some sustained reduced market volatility, ( before trying to feel a bottom of this market. Needless to say, I am 90% sure there are some huge bargains out there, but being retired has reduced my risk tolerance.

Like I said on a few other threads...  What I wouldn't give to be 25 again, with a tidy half mill to invest.

Stocks stage massive rally the morning after the worst rout since 1987
by Jay Heflin
 | March 13, 2020 09:46 AM

U.S. stocks opened up Friday as Congress closed in on a deal to mitigate the economic costs of the coronavirus on the country.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened nearly 6% higher from Thursday’s close.

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq composite were also up, 5.27% and 4.94%, respectively.

U.S. stocks had suffered their worst losses since 1987 on Thursday as investors feared the ramifications of the coronavirus pandemic.

The House was scheduled to vote on a relief package Friday that includes expanding the food stamps program and creating a new federal "emergency paid leave" program for people kept home by the pandemic.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat from California, and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin had several discussions on making changes to the bill, and Pelosi hopes to have a vote on the measure Friday. The Senate is adjourned until Monday, so the earliest that the bill can reach President Trump’s desk to be signed into law is next week.

NY Fed to accelerate bond purchases to keep Treasury market flowing

By Sylvan Lane - 03/13/20 11:17 AM EDT

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York will purchase $37 billion in Treasury bonds to boost liquidity in the crucial government debt market, it announced Friday.

The New York Fed will offer to complete on Friday nearly half its planned monthly purchases of Treasury bonds to ensure a steady trade in government notes. The Treasury bond market has seized throughout the week amid massive financial sector turmoil driven by the escalating coronavirus pandemic.

“These purchases are intended to address highly unusual disruptions in the market for Treasury securities associated with the coronavirus outbreak,” the New York Fed said in a statement.

You must be talking about futures?  I saw futures dropping over 2,500 pts. last night.

I know they didn't have or monitor VIX way way back in the day.  Put here is an interesting bit of information on how last week, the S & P 500 had 5 days straight of 4% changers for the first time since 1929.

Very good rally Friday -- checked the futures a bit ago -- futures are down.  Waiting for an opportunity to get back in -- I don't think we've seen bottom yet -- and the virus still hasn't peaked.  I think the market is going to see another sell off like we saw early this week.
