Besides just a few mistakes, the president is handling this as well as to be expected with something that’s new and unknown. We’ll look back and be able to assess some things and see how maybe they could’ve been done differently but the media claiming that this is his Katrina is just a reminder that it is an election year

He's handling it considerably better than his arrogant predecessor, which is something the Democrat Press can never abide.  Every flaw will be trumped up (to borrow a pun) to make Trump look like a combination of incompetent and evil.

Worse, hIs predecessor used every opportunity to expand the scope of government. Which partially explains the testing fiasco at the CDC. Trump's response to COVID19 has reinforced the idea that answers by & large should be sought in the private sector. This is an immense change of direction for the federal government.

After every crisis, there’s an opportunity to see what worked and what mistakes

The Marines in combat are joined by Navy corpsmen; in effect their "medics."

Like  all other medical providers, they practice Triage, to allocate/prioritize their resources for the most effective results.

They are at the point of the spear where people get hurt and killed.

Unlike REMF who think Triage is "despicable."

A floor nurse could monitor an ICU pt  but the problem would be Staffing.  You would burn out medical staff pretty quick

 Where I work we’re already short staffed and that was even before the Coronavirus. The staffing for ICU units is normally better than it is for Acute medical floors.

After so many years of working in this field, what I’ve learned is what sounds good written on paper seems to fall apart once the patient loads reach a certain level.

And any patient with active symptoms would definitely be in isolation. So any rooms that could hold two patients would only be able to take one

My husband was in hospital administration for more than 40 years before he retired 3 years ago.

After some of the crises caused by the overcrowding from flu viruses in the past years, he is VERY thankful to be retired.

I’m assuming she’s probably a 12 hour versus the regular eight hours? We have RNs that do work 12 hour shifts. I’m just a plain old eight hour RN

Yeah, something like that... She's on 2/12, and on call 2/12 and gets paid for 40.
That may not be exactly commonplace as she is specialized OB ICU...
But she was much the same before she made it to OB, when she worked Emergency/Trauma/ICU

By the way, I hear she is on notice: All hands on deck if this hits here... Which means I reckon, an honest 40 or more, which is a substantial increase in staffing by itself.
