You know what I would love to be able to buy new? A short wheelbase,short bed Dodge Ram pu with the pre-smog slant  6 and auto trans,ps,pb,and AC. Also a 71 Dart or Duster equipped the same way.

My only beef with that is that the turning radius of Dodges just sucks. But I have an '87 long box, manual 4 speed, slant 6 (bullet proof motor), w/PS and PB, (no AC, but the heater works pretty well). It's a great truck. I have fond memories of a '70 Coronet 440 I had as a grad student, too.

At this point for a fun vehicle, I'd like a Studebaker Hawk, but even though I got to drive one for a couple months, it was not to be...

Adding 1500 infected but asymptomatic is bs.  There were way more than that, as well as an astronomical amounts of symptomatic,  hospitalized, and deaths. Saying that there were an additional 1500 asymptomatic is a joke. The entire world should turn their backs on China and refuse any contact or business with them. Don't let China off the hook

Our friend Michael Auslin explains the importance of pushing back against China’s effort to deflect blame for the origin and spread of the Wuhan coronavirus. The case for holding China accountable is founded in morality, global governance, and the need to protect against future pandemics.

The moral case stems from the Chinese government’s reprehensible response to the early outbreak of the pandemic there. Auslin reminds us:

 

Chinese officials knew of the seriousness of the pandemic as early as December, yet waited weeks to begin restricting travel, allowing millions of Wuhan residents to visit relatives elsewhere in the country and abroad for Lunar New Year celebrations, spreading the virus as they went. British scientists have argued that if Beijing had acted just three weeks earlier, it could have reduced the spread of the virus by 95 percent.

    We also know that in the time before the outbreak’s seriousness became apparent outside China, the CCP destroyed laboratory samples and punished the brave doctors and citizens who tried to warn their countrymen and the world about the pathogen, while refusing foreign offers of help. We are almost certain that Beijing dramatically underreported the number of deaths in Wuhan, and is no longer reporting new infections in China.

Outrage over regime’s failure to release any Ahwazi women prisoners, as coronavirus fears worsen

Fresh outrage has rocked the Ahwaz region in Iran at the discovery that the regime’s decision to release 85,000 prisoners to reduce the risk of coronavirus in prisons did not include even one of the tens of thousands of male and female Ahwazi political prisoners detained in the regime’s massively overcrowded jails. This follows recent remarks by the regime’s judiciary spokesman, Gholamhossein Ismaili, who announced the decision to release 10,000 prisoners in honour of Nowruz celebrations, indicating that half of those released would be security prisoners.

‘Security prisoner’ is a term used to refer to any detainee charged by the regime with being a threat to Iran’s national security, a charge commonly used against activists and dissidents.

The release of the 85,000 detainees was also announced by Ismaili, at a news conference on Tuesday. The announcement raised the hope of thousands of Ahwazi prisoners’ families that their loved ones, many arrested for protesting or speaking out against the regime, might be coming home. These hopes were quickly dashed upon discovering that no Ahwazis were included in the amnesty.

At its core is a debate about whether to drop "China" from the island's official name, the Republic of China.

During the virus crisis, the World Health Organization (WHO), which considers the island part of China, has listed Taiwan's far lower case number under China's, and China has repeatedly insisted only it has the right to speak for Taiwan on the global stage, including about health issues.

"The poorest and weakest in our society are the women," said Chatterjee, who directs the social security team for the Self-Employed Women's Association (SEWA), a trade union that supports 1.7 million low-income women who are self-employed.

The Beijing regime should pay a “severe price” for covering up the deadly CCP virus pandemic and inflicting a huge financial and health toll on the United States and Americans, Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) told The Epoch Times.

The “reparations” could take on a variety of forms, including forcing China to forgive some or all of the U.S. national debt that China has bought up, institute tariffs on Chinese goods as a punishment, and pull state pension funds out of Chinese investments, according to Banks.

Britain’s attempt to ramp up mass coronavirus testing has been dealt a blow after key components ordered from overseas were discovered to be contaminated with coronavirus, the Telegraph can disclose.

Laboratories across the country were on Monday warned to expect a delay after traces of the virus were detected in parts due for delivery in the coming days.

It comes as ministers and public health chiefs face growing questions over why Britain’s testing capacity appears to be lagging far behind other major nations including the US and South Korea.

To accelerate production, the government has enlisted private firms to help produce thousands of kits in the hope that mass testing will be available to the public within weeks....

I don't think people were infected by the tests, but it threw a lot of false positives onto the statistics (that won't be corrected).  Leftists could then be counted upon to use the distorted statistics as a bludgeon against conservatives.

This is the eight-step dressing regimen of Adham Abdalrazik, a nurse at the Galilee Medical Center in the northern Israel town of Nahariya, before seeing patients in this COVID-19 era. In a cramped supply room, he grabs a pair of thin shoe covers from a plastic bin and slips them over his feet. At the next bin, he pumps a sanitizer jug and cleans his hands. He continues to his left, progressively donning blue gloves, a blue gown, hair netting, an N95 mask, a face shield, and another pair of gloves.

Abdalrazik normally works in the hospital’s geriatrics department. But these are not normal times, so the geriatric patients were relocated from here to the internal medicine department three weeks earlier and a COVID-19 department was configured in its place. Abdalrazik’s patients now—three patients on this day—are solely those with COVID-19.

It is Wednesday, March 25, and we are in the department’s Yellow Zone. Abdalrazik’s patients are maybe 10 steps away in the hermetically sealed Red Zone. The department has 24 beds and nine rooms, including a six-bed room reserved for critical-care patients, of which there haven’t been any yet. Only five patients have been hospitalized here with COVID-19, all with mild cases of the highly contagious virus. Each patient has been young: a 49-year-old and the rest 23 to 29.

Short bed standard cab pu's have a short wheelbase,and don't have that problem.

I would kinda like to buy a new pu,but AFAICT,none of the American manufacturers sells short wheelbase standard cab pu's,anymore. You have to buy a extended cab or crew cab to get a short box,which defeats the purpose of having a short box.

I have a extended cab 4x4 diesel pu with the long bed,and when I try to park it in places like the VA parking lot,there just isn't enough room to get into a parking space in less than 15 minutes of back and forth,and getting back out again is no better.

Looks like I am going to have to get something like a Ranger or a Toyota.

Don't buy new. For the price of a new one, you could go through the drive train completely, rewire and replace much of the other stuff on a solid older pickup. Look for an area where road salt isn't in use, like here or way south, and the older trucks survive pretty well. (As for parking, back it in, it won't take less time getting in, but getting out is much faster.)
