Can California contain a coronavirus outbreak? It’s ‘anybody’s guess’

Dr. Matthew Willis, Marin County’s chief health officer, fielded a phone call Friday from a school superintendent asking the question on many parents’ minds: What should they do if a student shows up for class with signs of coronavirus infection?
The answer, Willis said, depends. If that situation were to play out in the coming days, he might suggest they close the school for two weeks — a drastic measure to stop the virus from getting a toehold in the community.
But a month or two from now? The virus might be circulating widely in the Bay Area by then, and closing down a school for one sick student wouldn’t be worth the headaches.
